Last couple of minute has really just about summed up Seversons career so far.

This is ALLLL because Zacha SUCKS. Fans on the opportunity.. then passes it out of whoever's reach.. then is LAX getting back on D.. leading it to getting to Severson to begin with. so ridiculous. SEND HIM DOWN. Everything he does is tentative and weak compared to literally every other play on the ice. SEND HIM DOWN. Done with him. As of this day, not predicting the future.. what a disappointment of a 6th overall pick. What a waste.
Hope he finds his game in the A and can be a contributor to this team in a positive way.

like.. put the puck.. on the tape.. of the stick. it's all go go go and no one knows what the heck they're doing. passes off target so many times. If you can't connect on passes, just throw the puck on net and crash for a rebound. but what do i know.

How you like Bratt, you idiot?
- Pomegrant

Actually Bratt is a shero draft pick, not conte/lamerillio, but why let a good story get in the way of the truth? Just add Zacha to a decade long piss poor job of drafting 1st round picks by lamerillio. The bottom line is he ISN"T an NHL player, maybe shero can find a sucker to take him?

These last two games have cemented for me that this team is still a long, long ways away (which is mostly what I’ve been saying most of the year but was trying not to sound negative).

Yes we still need better defensemen but I don’t think it’s really a talent problem anymore. I’m not sure there is a definitive leader in that room who frankly pushes guys into putting forth their best on a nightly basis. I think we’ve been missing that since Stevens.

There was that great story from Friesen after the 2003 Cup run when they lost in OT to the Red Wings at the Joe and Friesen was pretty happy with getting a point and Stevens went absolutely ballistic on him. To me, that’s the kind of leadership we are missing. Someone who doesn’t accept this mediocre mentality and makes guys think twice about taking a night off.

I wonder how many of those guys there are in the league anymore. This darn generation of entitled kids.. grow up to entitled young adults. Everyone thinks things are handed to them. Everyone thinks they deserve millions for lacing up skates every day. Well I'm here to tell ya they don't, ya hear?!

But seriously, I do wonder if there are captains or leaders that speak up in the room anymore. I feel like a lot of players, even the blessed "gritty leader bla bla" Toews, are content with a loss.. to go home to their multi-million dollar house, or whatever the case, and live to play another day. It's definitely a different generation of hockey players than what we had 20 years ago. I know it's still a tough sport and hard work and etc.. but the refs protect the players now. There's less physical play now. Things are kinda not so cut throat as they used to be.

Bench the whole team!.. except Schneider.

I don't know about everyone else but I don't mind long posts. If I don't care for it I just won't read it.

Post away brother. If anyone is mad or irritated about things they don't care for, like an obnoxiously long post, but absolutely have the option to ignore said thing, they are stupid, irrelevant, and they can (frank) right off.

This team is halfway to being decent, but still has to pick up the rest of the pieces/ability/synergy to be a real threat and it will take time. There will be a lot of banter in between here and there, and I like to read all the posts and learn what everyone thinks. Even devfan30. He might be a certain way but he still has an opinion. I disagree but who cares.

I know there are way more people who read this than comment. I read the blog for 3 years before I even joined. The peanut gallery and smarmy insulting bs comments inhibit people sharing their thoughts and it's a shame. I don't remember anyone ever getting a medal for 'the best' or 'most informed' hb comments so I don't know why mother(frank)ers get so high horsey on here. Its a hockey blog and kind of a lousy one at that. If more people commented it would be better.

Just my thoughts on that matter.

The Devils are a young, in-consistent team that has nights where they play great and nights where they get run over, and most of the nights they've gotten run over have been against pretty good teams (besides that Coyotes game).

It's a work in progress, team was last in the East a season ago and there seemed to be little to be excited about for the future. This season has been lots of fun so far. Going into the season my goal was for the team to just be meaningfully "in the hunt" for a playoff spot come the new year, and at this point at the very least that seems like a sure thing. Don't get too upset over a few ugly loses, this season has already been more of a success than most thought.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m not expecting them to win every game. Not even close. But there’s a fine, but very definite mentality shift that’s occurred. And it could definitely just be a generational thing. But they are satisfied to split a couple games or get X out of y points. I hear them say it all the time -I think even Hall said recently if they can split the road trip to W Canada that’s good. So the bar is fundamentally set lower BEFORE they’ve even stepped on the ice, which is very different than starting with the mindset that they are gonna go beat these teams and sort out the points after. I’m sure some see it as a semantic difference, I don’t. I think it’s a fundamental acceptance of mediocrity.

I agree to a point but guys like Nico and Bratt don't seem to emulate that weak minded approach so it's not all of them.

But yeah kids these days I think are are too many generations removed from people that had to fight just to survive to be able to reach within and really find that next gear without a Stevens type character in their faces. All the money and cool poop in the world would mean little if he was in your face.

I totally understand this opinion and I don’t blame you or anyone for feeling that way. Winning sure feels better than losing.

And I’m definitely in the minority for [sort of] disagreeing. My stance is I’d rather be a last place team who works hard every night vs the team we are right now which is one that has shown they can win when they feel like putting in the work. That’s a work ethic problem, not a talent problem like we’ve had in other years. But talent only gets you so far. Look at the Oilers this year.

Again I recognize, my opinion is the minority here and most are Happy because we’ve been so horrible for so many years. But to me those years, we didn’t have a ton of talent. Now we do. So accepting less when they’ve shown they can do more isn’t ok with me.

100% agree. And I didn’t mean to imply it was all of them. There are definitely guys with the right mindset and work ethic. Nico, Bratt, Coleman, Boyle to name a few. I just meant there are still enough guys who may be leading by a bad example of accepting mediocrity.
