I don't know how long it's going to take, but the Pens need to understand that every team is pumped to play the champs as soon as the first puck is dropped. They get outplayed a ton in 1st periods.....this game being no different.
now you give them to much credit. it is more that the pens looks like the mike johnston pens atm. - martox
The Leafs are one of the best teams in the league. They play a very similar style that the Pens did two years ago. Fast attacking hockey with good puck support.

I'm pretty sure, but could obviously be wrong, that the 1st period has been the Pens' worst period for a few years now.
The Leafs are a shutdown dman away from being considered a contender. And they need to upgrade their backup goalie situation.
The Penguins should at least give Dominic Simon a shot before looking for a winger. He has played in the NHL and did not look out of place. And he’s been solid in WBS all season. - dcoms77
They have Pickard in the minors because of their goalie waiver situation.
Agreed, that and the fact that they didn't mail it in. Simon with 4 assists in 6 games played in the NHL. Not sure about him as a center though. - Thorny87
Would be great if he could be a center option but I think he's played mostly wing as a pro.
Not sure if this was mentiined earlier but Boudreau said the Cullen scratch was more because they feel they need to rest him some games at his age and that he'll be right back in.

I really want them to move Guentzel to 3C.
Aside from that, this game was not lost because of the bottom-six. This game was lost because the Pens came out like they thought it was a practice game.
Really? Thought he was a center down in WBS. I'll take a scoring winger though. I think Sheahan has been better but that 3rd needs some more help. - Thorny87
I could be wrong, not like I watch a ton of WBS games, but I try to look at line combos pretty often and I don't think I've ever seen him at center. Like many skill players he was a center as an amateur and still gets listed as one.

Good news, that means this won't turn into Culldog watch similar to the past years Jagr watch.

Guentzel at 3C gets intriguing although Sheahan is starting to pick up the points so maybe he can do the job. 3 goals and 8 points in his last 12, I'll take that pace if he keeps it up.
Agree on your game assessment, they lost this one early. Can't come out flat against such a dangerous team.
