love Tyrell Goulbourne; a late developing prospect for sure.

Just because Patrick isn't scoring, doesn't mean that his confidence is gone (although, I will admit, I don't know that it isn't). I think right now, he's navigating the NHL about as well as I thought he would. Sure, I would have liked a bit more points, but I thought 35 points would be about his cap this season.

My opinion is that it won't do his development any good to send him to the WJC, so I don't think they will do it. I think it's more important to have him playing against NHL competition.

He's going to be a very good player, just need to be a bit patient.

On another note, is Ohtani going to be a hitter or a pitcher in fantasy baseball? Because pitchers' hitting stats don't count, not do fielders' pitching stats in rare instances they do pitch in blowouts/18 inning games.

Or will he be both?

That's the most interesting part of this whole saga tbh

Hey Bill, good stats on NAK, Hart, and Frost. Hart and Frost we expected to jump but I was getting a little worried about NAK. Very encouraging stuff outta him.

I thought Mark Alt acquitted himself nicely out there in his time with us the last few games. He should be proud of himself.

at one point i thought Alt had a chance to be a 6/7 like Manning but the guy just always seemed to get hurt

I'll admit my bias as a fan increasing my desire to see him sent to the WJC. I'd rather see him play a key role against the best players in his age group instead of 8 minutes a night of sheltered hockey for 2 weeks.

From Hextall's perspective, I think it will be a rewarding experience that can help his development. The role he's currently playing wont be missed while he's gone.

- Giroux_Is_God

Yup.

All can obviously see how Patrick's game has progressed tremendously, averaging less than 4 minutes per period per night. If that doesn't reap one with self assuredness, I can't think of what would. To date, Manning has more goals than NP (though in all fairness, Brandon has played 2 more games).

All stoopid snarkyness aside, let the kid enjoy himself for a couple of weeks. Let him stretch his legs, play quality time against good competition, take the handcuffs off and give him a chance to remember what he's capable of.

the question is going to the WJC and dominating kids be better than him continuing to get acclimated to the pace of the NHL? my first thought was send him but then after thinking about it I think its better that he stays in the NHL
- nastyflyergirl

He'll have what, 40 some NHL games to play when he gets back? This has to be affecting his confidence and affecting him mentally. A 2 week break getting back with a lot of players his own age and being able to play at a higher level individually could do him a world of good.

i wouldnt worry about Patrick, once he had to have surgery, then he got hurt this was going to be a learning year. Add in that Weise is on his line and he has extra weight to carry on that groin injury

Hey Bill, what would you think of switching Ghost with Provorov on the PP units? That way you add some kind of flare to that second unit on the back end with a heavy shot to muster up some chances?
- RyShiff

I'm not sure how well that would work. Ghost would still need someone to tee up the shots for him -- something that both Giroux and Voracek excel at doing -- and some traffic in front.

People look way too much into the whole "development". Ruining a kid's development is having him play a full year when he is not ready in a certain league or misusing the guy for an entire season, bouncing him up and down between leagues.

Patrick would not be ruined by playing in world juniors this year, It wouldn't be bad thing to go get top minutes in a big tournament like that. I'm fine if he goes or stays but saying it will hamper his development is ridiculous.

While I don't know for a fact that his confidence is being negatively affected, if it is, it's not necessarily a bad thing for him to try and work himself out of it. He's been dominating the WHL for the last three seasons, and has been touted as the potential number 1 pick in his draft year for the two previous seasons. Based off my personal experience, it's better to make him work himself out of that situation.

There will surely be points of his career where things don't go the way he wants them to, and figuring out how to deal with that early is good for a young NHL player.

I don't think I said it would hamper his development, but if I did, what I meant was it won't help his development anymore than playing in the NHL.

If I was him, I wouldn't want to play in the WJC because A. I already knew there is nothing to prove at that level for me. B. I would be letting my teammates down by leaving to play in another tournament.

It's just my personal opinion, and I'm not saying that is what Nolan is thinking. He might want to go and play there.

I hear you, I don't feel strongly either way if he goes or not. What I would like to see is him and TK drive a line, even with Weise. That line just has not been great 5 on 5 and seems to have those periods of being hemmed in the zone more than others. On a good note, Patrick clearly has a high IQ and seems to make smart plays with the puck, minus the high sauce to Weise that went the other way.

I would like to see him put more rubber on net.

He’s much heavier than Leier, and he has a really good shot.
