He won the Art Ross and Hart trophies in 2003.

So kinda hard to argue he was never the top guy.

Yep.
And he was among the top 5 players in the league, if not top 3, for a good 7 or 8 year stretch. He's absolutely an elite talent.

The problem is, as Adam mentioned earlier, he shared the spotlight with Sakic for those years. I think both of them are somewhat underrated because of that.

Pettersen is certainly a special player. Very jealous he's not an Oiler. Easily argued the best player from his draft class despite not being in the NHL. Forsberg did not play in the NHL until he already played three seasons for MODO. The best player is not always the first player drafted or the first to play. Be patient Canucks fans. Your GM is far better than most dare say.
