Yeah he is starting to fill out a bit. I stopped calling him string bean. Doing a lot of bite training too. His neck is like a steel beam.

Dude, that's overkill!
All you need is a piece 6" or 12" longer on each side of the fireplace. You're looking at 4 1/2' or 5' anchored into the wall. Completely do-able.
