Despite the cap space they have, there are not a lot of players wanting to go to Montreal. Tavares would be crazy to even consider that team
- cragar77

Not so sure about that: Tavares is a true number one centre. He would be king in Montreal, and I think Montreal is easily one of the meccas of hockey. He would do much better there than playing for Wang and his incompetent management staff.

I can only presume you are very close to several NHL players to make that claim so I'll take your word for it.

Hell, you might be John Tavares himself!

Well couple managements complete lack of direction with the impatience of the fan base and media... it’s tough to understand why he would want to play in that market at this point in time

Very true, but if someone touches Price, never mind runs him over like Tkachuk did several times, he gets a Weber cross-check in the head at least.

Meh, not that much of a deterrent.

I can't think a single team in the NHL i'd consider tough anymore. I wouldn't be overly concerned running any goalie. Who has a slew of tough players?

Spoken like a true blue Leafer. The only difference between our cities is the language the batpoop crazy media speaks.

He's playing for the god damn Islanders ffs.

Anything would be an improvement.

I'm sure he'd be happy in Montreal.

And he'd make the team that much better too....

Of course but would you leave a poopty job to take a marginally better job, when there are many other (better) jobs out there that would pay the same?

The Leafs fan base has a seasoned stomach when comes to dealing with mediocrity. Tickets still sell.

Tavares destinations imo:

1) Isles: 90%
2) Rangers: 8%
3) Leafs: 1%
4) the field: 1%

Adding a player of Tavares caliber to the Habs without subtracting substantially, makes them way better - a sure playoff team that can do damage. Bergevin is still a toolbox, but the fan support is great, sellout every game one of the best franchises in hockey - and not changing any time soon. I am not a Habs fan, but one of the best hockey destinations for sure.

Not that many teams have the cap space to give him as much $.

And as winsix pointed out, adding Tavares to the Habs makes them just that much more dangerous.

A team having Tavares, Pacioretty, Price, Weber, Galchenyuk, Drouin, Gallagher would command respect, no doubt about it.

This being said, it's all speculations, we don't know squat about what the man is thinking.

I’m not saying it’s not a great hockey city. I’m also not disagreeing that adding Tavares would tremendously benefit their club. Just saying if I’m Tavares I’m looking at all 31 of my offers and realizing a lot of them are more attractive than Montreal. Sentimentality plays a part, but just a part, this is a career decision he’s making.

There's won't be 31 10M+ for 8 years offers for Tavares.

No there won’t, but there will likely be 31 inquiries and based on Tavares priorities he gets to decide what he wants to do

You make a good point. It all depends on what the headline says.

I see Tavares name in it, i dont read it. Same old nonsense that's been said a thousand times I'm sure
