The word on the bricks is this is a deep draft year. We need to load up on picks. The draft and FA we can work on finding better fits. Too bad we had to have small successes and didn't tank in 2016. Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine, Matthew Tkachuk would have had a massive impact on this team. Oh well,

I'm with you on that. I would take just a first for Kane. We all (well most of us) know he's not going to be wearing a Sabres jersey next year

I'd prefer Botts get a prospect who's about to break out of the AHL. But those trades rarely happen

It would be nice to get an instant gratification deal done for Kane but I don't see it happening. We might get lucky and get a first and a prospect but the prospect won't be NHL ready.

Too bad Tim Murray wasn't already an NHL GM for another team. We could have gotten a TON.

It would be soooooo fun if the NHL had "loans" for the playoffs.

The Sabres loan Jack Eichel to the Nashville Predators for a 2nd round pick for the duration of the year and playoffs

It would be 16 super teams in the playoffs

I don't know why they'd trade Scandella. But if they trade either of those, i hope it's for players. We don't need more chances to screw up at the draft
- jcragcrumple

AGREE

We need to be trading for guys who can be part of the “core”
Not late 1st round draft picks that usually become average players

I’ve heard they’re not happy with how Tkachuk is playing in Calgary

So, what is your take on the scoring woes...and without looking it up to confirm exactly ... but seems we have drafted a bunch of centers and have tried to convert them to wings. Maybe we have too many “creative types” rather than guys who simp,y bury the puck.
- IonSabres

Yeah,
the “make-up” of the team is certainly in question

I brought that point up when we chose Nylander, bc i saw him as more of a “playmaker” than a “sniper”

It’s also why Kane’s lack of assists never bothered me
He’s good at scoring goals, and we don’t have a lot of guys who can do that

I know its a crazy idea...but

Would it be that out of the question to trade Kane now and resign him in the summer?

I feel like this isnt talked about much. If he really does like it here, then maybe he would agree to an arrangement like this.

This way he gets his shot in the playoffs

The only "risk" is that Kane is not bound to anything. He may decide he wants to play elsewhere.

Do we think we can get him back though?
That’s a big risk

I could see the thought process there

And if we miss out on Kane,
we could potentially go after JvR or Neal to replace him

Could we get any of those guys to sign here though?
I’m guessing we’d have to overpay
