I don't think they should move G back to center. In fact, I personally don't want to see him playing center ever again. I believe it will extend his longevity, and productivity.

30 points in 28 games and still takes some face off's, when they need him too.....I agree 100%. The shift to the wing has really worked out well for both the Flyers and Giroux.

The guy that's 34 that they're using at center is not a core player, and is not a player expected to be part of the future of this team. It's the right move.

Giroux's "transition" to LW took all of what, 2 preseason games? I think he can handle moving to wing when it is actually necessary

It's not about either player's ability to move to the Wing.

Two things about that I don't understand:
1. Are his points more important than the overall depth of the Flyers?
2. Why are we talking about his longevity at age 29 (30 in a month)? Isn't the guy they're using at center in place of him soon to be 34?

I guarantee if he wasn't hampered by the injury last year people wouldn't be talking about his longevity. There will come a time to move him to wing...it isn't right now

- YuenglingJagr

1. I don't see that as a really pressing issue. I do think his points will come more frequently as a wing.

2. Because he has 4 more seasons to go at 8.275 million whereas Filppula is on the last year of his deal.

His point totals and effectiveness were trending down over the past 4 seasons. 86 to 73 to 67 to 58. He is a smallish guy who has been playing hard minutes and I think it is a great idea to take some of that burden off of him going forward.

Elliot has been a good signing, most nights even during the losing streak he has played well. It also appears he has a maturity and is probably becoming a leader on the team
- wcorvette

Elliot is boring and maybe it is even a good sign on a team what is young but still
would prefer a goalie what is as exciting as Carey Price energizing the whole team

My biggest regret in life so far is never playing the actual board game version of Risk
- YuenglingJagr

LOVE THAT GAME!!!

I have played the board game version many times, it can not be beat!

Much better then the video game version.

You, my brotha, are missing out.

I don't understand this argument. It's like arguing for the sake of arguing. And I think Giroux moving to the wing was done with an eye to the future. You have centers coming up in the system like Vecchione, Vorobryev, Rubstov and maybe further out Marody.

You also have Patrick that should start to see more responsibility next year in the middle.

I think the move has benefits for this season and the future.

So you're saying you think him playing center now will deteriorate his body in some way that will prevent him from playing wing effectively in the last 1-3 years on his deal?

Point totals going down is a very normal thing in the NHL. There is a prime for a reason. I would also argue the players he was playing with mattered a lot in those stats. Beside his inability to move like he normally does last year, he was still an effective player and one of the Flyers' best. Center is the more important position and where the Flyers should be focusing on being better.

It's not quite as invigorating as a board game session playing Monopoly

So true.

I do love me a good game of Monopoly.

There is a game on the Wii U called Fortune Street. It very well may be the most underrated game on any console.

If you like Monopoly, then this game is a must! This game will suck you in for hours!!!

You're just naming prospects that have played center at some point in their life. Cooper Marody is supposed to solidify the team at center for the future? Patrick isn't even allowed to play in the 3rd period.

Moving Giroux to wing because of center prospects is about the worst excuse that can be made (besides him being ugly because he is still dreamy)

Some observations from last night's game and just Flyers stuff in general:

Ivan Provorov was a flat out horse last night. He shut down McJesus and gave the Flyers 28+ outstanding minutes. What he's doing at age 20 is just remarkable.

This kid... WOW!

What a treat. 20 years old and he dominates games on the backend. He is something special and he still is only scratching the surface.

I was serious about the first question...longevity to me meant "the amount of time he was still a top scorer"

If you meant the tax on his body, I think that is the most realistic reason, but I still believe it is only talked about because of how ineffective he was last year due to the injury

I still can't believe the Devils took Zacha over him. I literally leaped for joy when they passed over Provy.

The wide consensus was Provorov was a legit number 1 D prospect while Zacha was more of a boom or bust type. How you go with Zacha knowing your rival will be running to the podium to get a number 1 D man is just bizarre to me.
