Hey, I have an actual serious non hockey related question.

Sister in law is pregnant and the guy who is the father is a coke addict, alcoholic, emotionally abuses her. They live together but have separate rooms and while all coked up last week, tossed the entire room. Destroying just about everything and punched a bunch of holes in the wall. (while she was at work).

My wife and I have said no to having christmas with him and his 9 year old son.

Sister in law is mad at us and believe's that because he has "talked" about going to counselling for all his problems, we have no right to ignore them and take christmas away from his 9 year old son.

Are we?

- manvanfan

it's a tough situation but you are in the right... absolutely in the right.

your sister in law needs to get away from this guy and quick!

Thanks for all the responses guys
Appreciate it.

She does need to leave him, now that she's pregnant it's going to become harder.

I am a bit concerned that if we don't show up to there christmas that he may take things to a new level (physical abuse) blaming her for us not showing up.

Very nice for you & your wife to even consider it.

You have the right to enjoy Christmas how you want without their (very sad) drama & guilt. The best thing you can do is be there when they have seeked help and are on the road to recovery.
Good luck.

Tough spot, but you aren’t taking “Christmas Away”. It’s like parents who won’t continue to support a child financially when dealing with a drug addiction. You offer support to fix the problem but don’t contribute to it continuing.

I tried to help. I have a rental property and I offered it to her for half of what I usually get. She turned it down.

if that is true, any little thing that goes wrong in his life will trigger him.

if not this matter something else will provoke him (if your feeling is right).

sorry to belabour the point, especially since you agree but she needs to leave him until (at the very least) he turns his life around.

everyone on this thread, say it with me: Bozak is awful. at 5 million for this year and next year he is an AWFUL pickup for any team. Terrible defensively his whole career.

Late to this, but IMO that's a pretty healthy boundry. Lots of people say they are going to get help, it's not the same thing as someone who is doing the work. I've dealt with this myself, you're not denying them christmas you are saying I want my holidays to have x type of people and not have y type of people. Honestly, I arrange my life in the same way.

Oh my bad, 4.2 for only this year. I noticed you didn't bold the part about him being a complete and utter defensive liability

At least you know what you have, too bad the Shanaplan guys didn't. He looked a lot better in the off-season after a season of padded stats, he might of got you a 2nd or 3rd on draft day.
