Teaser for story I'm currently writing and you'd never guess this: Among NHL goalies who have played at least 10 games at home, who is third in GAA (2.02) and fourth in save percentage (.932)? Robin Lehner.

Stirring the pot is fun!!

He needs a better coach to work with him and not try to make him into something he's not. He's got an unorthodox style and gets very little to no help from his defense most nights. Everyone female doges about how horrible the defense is and then expect Lehner to be good at the same time. It just doesn't work like that with mere mortals. Hasek could do it, because A) the team actually played defense and 2) he was the best goalie ever.
- Wetbandit1

The goalie coach he worked with for the first years he was here got incredible performances out of career journeymen like Halak, Neuvirth, Lindback, Johnson, and ... well ... Lehner.

And the D hasn't been great in front of him.

But what I'm looking at now isn't situations where he can be coached up, or where the D can help him. What I'm looking at is he is a 6'4" 240 lb giant, and he doesn't eat pucks, he rebounds them. That's not horrible, the D could help with that, but they're never gonna get all of them, and after he makes the first save he is just not quick enough to get re-established for the next one.

I think that part of his game is etched in stone. I think he's a starter, but i think we can do better for $4MM.

Waiting for Lehner to steal a game or put together a good stretch. I just have not seen enough of either.

Perfect for #stealthtank or trade for worse goalie and maybe a 3rd

There are only a handful of goalies that can do that.

And $4M makes him the 25th highest paid goalie.

Serious question. Could the Sabres not send Reinhart down to Rochester? It may be something he needs. I think he was rushed to the NHL given that we had no talent on our team at the time. He played a total of 3 games in the AHL...at the conclusion of his final season with Kootaney. I don't see how it could hurt him...and it honestly might help the kid get some confidence. How is having him on the 4th line doing anything for him or us? He's on pace for 28 points for goodness sake!! He's a better player than that!!

As much as I was not a fan of Miller, I have to admit the wiry s.o.b. really had the ability to make what looked like an impossible save, kicking out a leg, or diving with his glove hand. I've only seen one or two of these highlight reel saves out of Lehner. He relies on positioning and his size to make 95% of his saves, and that will not be good enough moving forward. At 4M he's barely worth it, and if he thinks he's getting a long term deal at more money, he's insane. If we can get a 2nd and a replacement goalie to come back our way, make the deal. Ullmark will be our starter next season.

Yes, I believe he could be sent down due to his age and the CBA saying he's not waiver restricted. But, you can count on him demanding a trade if we do send him down. We'll have a Drouin situation here and is that something we need right now?

Good point. But he can't be happy with how things are going. And maybe if you tell him it's for 10-15 games max or something. I think it'd be more beneficial to him then playing 9 minutes a night...somethings gotta give.

Konecny hasn't done much of anything and been a healthy scratch. But I would also like this. Kid has some flair to him. I try to see who we got to take the roles of the 05/07 Sabres. Konecny's career probably paralleling Briere's at this point. It will never happen.

His speed would be a welcome addition to this group the Flyers don’t have very much luck trading away players they usually become solid NHL forwards

I think someone like Lehner is fine in the 3-4 mil range.

But I wouldn't look at him and say that's our long term starter

This team desperately needs for Nylander to begin excelling in the A, specifically goals baby! I know he just returned, and the word was he dedicated himself during the off-season, but please for the love of God, can he just start producing goals!

Having him and Guhle develop nicely this year in Roch would be huge...enabling Botts to pencil them on the big club for next season..brings a bit of clarity from what is now very uncertain for Nylander anyway.

Knowing he has his future Eichel LW or RW in the fold and the promise of Mittlestadt the year after sure makes the future seem much brighter.

Buffalo will get Jamie McGinn and like it
- doppelthat

Tallon likes the toughness and "sandpaper" that McGinn brings. He traded Demers for him, I really don't see him flipping him for Johnson. McGinn has been playing on the 2nd and the 3rd line this season. He's just about the only one who will go to the net and take the abuse to score a goal. He brings a toughness to the lineup that would be missed.
I don't see him trading Pysyk for a backup goalie, their D is all very young and Tallon made some hotly debated decisions at expansion draft to protect Pysyk and Petrovic.
FL has a lot of young and inexperienced forward prospects that would probably be the player offered, if he tries to make a deal. Although I'd like to see him start by offering the "experienced, proven scorer" that is Radim Vrbata.
IMO, judging by the offseason moves, this year for FL is more about getting back on track after last year's fiasco and building for next year and beyond. A high draft pick in June wouldn't be the end of the world.
They may wait a bit before deciding on making a move. I I guess it all depends on if Reimer can be a consistent starter, and if the unknown Sateri can be a reliable backup.

If that the case can’t see the Sabres being a good trade partner..
