We've seen this poop from Chia repeatedly. I mean de Haan is meh and another left shot but at least that deal looks a bit more balanced. I truly believe Chia needs to get shown the door before he turfs another player for scraps

I think the point is more that we wouldn't have signed Russell if we had acquired DeHaan.
Imagine you're working in a job where your mediocre performance meant you might get fired soon. You discover an opportunity that might be able to hold that off for at least a year... what would you do? - freelancer
He already has that option: fire McClellan and he'll get an extra year to "work his magic"

I think there are many fans that would say playoffs are better than no playoffs and of course that's true to a degree. However if the cost of making the playoffs is trading away say Yamamoto and a 1st round pick for immediate help, then losing in 4 games in round 1, then that immediate help you acquired leaves for free agency, then it was not worth it. - freelancer
Well it may be more to do with coach & GM trying to keep their jobs. No playoffs may decide their fate, while scratching into them 'might' keep them employed. If I'm Costanza I'm trying to make the playoffs without the fire sale which may hurt the organisation down the track. Trading a couple of players will help moving forward but won't help the now. I still think the team can turn the season around to a respectable result without trades but I'm not under any pressure & really a nobody. The Flames were sellers a few years ago & still went to the 2nd round (as an example).
Meh I would have signed him but told him two years tops.... having him and DeHaan would have been better than him and Gryba. - LittleRicky
The cap next year is the concern. If you sign him for 2 years at 4mil and have DeHaan at around 4 by 4 then that's 4mil less than the already small amount we have to resign all of our RFAs.

You don't sign Gryba or Auvitu which saves 1.6 million... honestly we are at a point where one of RNH or Lucic will be moved this summer.
