Right now they have 1.76M including LTIR salary relief pool. That number scrunch when Berube came up. It’ll go back up by $700,000 when he goes back down. Also it hasn’t factored in Kero being on waivers yet.

If that were true, he probably wouldn't be coaching in China right now.
- JRoenick97

Not coaching in China - rather coached the Chinese KHL team after winning the KHL championship with Magnetogorsk. His stint at Magnetogorsk ended because the Russian teams in the KHL just recently required all of their coaches to be Russian citizens, resulting in Keenan and a few other non-Russian coaches losing their jobs. That is why he became eligible to coach the Chinese KHL team.

This team has upside in it and needs a swift kick either to get the vets re-engaged, or to find out which of them are just coastng and along for the ride. No better guy to quickly make those determinations than Iron Mike.

Enough of the excuses about schedule and calls and the like.

It's a funtion of the hockey writers not knowing how to read. The next line down says 1.7m from LTIR.

Keenan was a product of the league at that time. Players were undisciplined, partiers, and drunks. A guy like Keenen was effective because he could berate and push players in to their best. The NHL isn't like that anymore. Guys are all training, on a schedule, on diets, team approved everything. Keenan wouldn't do anything but be hated and lose his team immediately.

Evander Kane 50% retained

remember its $2.5m + ~$900k (the cost of replacing one of the roster players on an ELC)

Mmm, not so sure on the bolded.
If a few key guys were really ONNIT, maybe they'd get off it and we'd actually see some leadership instead of brain-dead plays and falling down more often than a kid learning to skate.

If Tortorella can change, so can Keenan. I don't think that Keenan would be the answer long term, but if the Hawks still look like crap in January, it would be fun to see Keenan bag skate this entitled core for the rest of the season and make them earn their paychecks.

Here are a couple silly arm chair gm trades my friends and I came up with when watching the game last night nothing better to do because hawks were getting their ass handed to them again by Washington.

luci letestu for seabrook and kero and 5th in 2019

kieth to Toronto for conner carrick and zac hyman and 2nd 2018

panik Hartman and smaltz to phily for simmions and morin

These are just fantasy trades just throwing something at the wall and see if it sticks.

Hawks are so bad offensively and pp its laughable just like last night's game.

The schedule IS brutal - overall, 82 games in 184 days. 70 games in the same amount of days would certainly be better - and make for a better regular season (forgetting any revenue loss to players or owners).

And the Blackhawks' travel schedule has not been favorable, as you note.

But, looking at the first 28 games:

7 back-to-backs
9 with one full day off between games
7 with 2 full days off between games
4 with 3 full days off between games

28 games in 63 days (9 weeks) - about 3 games per week - I don't know how you get to appreciably less than that.

Except for the most recent 6 game stretch with only 5 full days off between games, I'm not sure how that compares to other teams this year, or historically to past Blackhawk seasons.

blues have traveled for 21 of their 28 games....

no long western swings did away with their long homestands

Nobody said they weren't playing well because of travel, we are saying the travel this first half of the year is brutal. They are separate topics. I looked back all the way to 2009 and no season has been this brutal. The NHL blows at scheduling.
- JRoenick97

Agree. Never stated their record was due to travel schedule…so others can stop with the strawman responses.
I suspect all teams have a brutal 2 months at some point…as you pointed out the hawks have yet to play 3 home games BTB…
This bouncing around with home-away-home-away-away-home-away is absurd.

Keith - not great anymore and playing like a 4D

Toews- not great anymore and playing like a 3C

Seabrook - bad and playing like a 6D

Kane- still a PPG player and one of the top 3 most dangerous players in the world with the puck on his blade

Saad - not nearly good enough finishing his chances

Hawks are royally (frank)ed and it's 100% on Bowman. Too much $$ tied up in players who are a shell of their former selves. This season has been ugly so far, and the "Leadership" on this team has checked out. They look like bunch of mercenaries that are showing up to collect a paycheck and nothing more. This is tough to watch and I don't see it getting better anytime soon. Oh well, good thing Stan Bowman is here to guide the way.....

This. If the opportunity arose for an almost fair deal I don't think the front office could be picky if it was in or out of the division. Toews could take on a Kruger-type role of 3rd line center, 10-12 minutes a night. face-off and penalty kill specialist.

DO you honestly hint a team will pay him say 7/8 million a year (hawks retain difference) for 10/12 minutes??????
Also he or Kane seabrook aa would have to agree first

But I thought Toews was the greatest leader in the world, I mean...isn't that one of the "intangibles" people like us don't understand that makes him so amazing and irreplaceable?

Don't know if you get any of the local news feeds where you're at . . . but suffice to say, there is one word that sums up his interviews these days.

That word is NOT:
Intense
Focused
Contrite
Angry
Upset
Impassioned
Fervent

I'd say it's more like:
Mope

I have absolutely NO confidence listening to the guy that he knows he's played like crap as has most of the core -- or that they are very likely to miss the playoffs (regardless of IF they should squeak in, they'll be out in the 1st round 3rd year in a row).

No, my Captain, your Captain sounds much more like a corporate CEO happy to collect his big payday and (frank) you for thinking he's not working hard to earn it.

Hey Everyone. First post but long time follower of the board. I look forward to contributing to discussions about our beloved Blackhawks.

The thing that amazes me about this team is year after year how poorly the power play performs. The scheme is worn out. No matter the assistant that gets brought in to run the PP unit, the scheme remains the same. Is this team the juggernaut that it once was? Absolutely not.

But with the offensive talent up front there is no reason that the power play should be completely inept. Entries are a problem and when they finally establish possession in the O zone it’s perimeter garbage with little if any net presence.

Get some of the bigger bodies on the PP that will win puck battles, go to the net, set screens and pay the price to score goals. At the very least, the power play should not cause a momentum shift in the wrong direction.

Hopefully these next 3 games help the Hawks get back in the win column, give them a little momentum to build upon and get them back in a wildcard spot. Look forward to being involved in future discussion. Go Hawks!
