Even if the Hawks dealt off 19, 7, 2, etc....they would get cap space, but would absolutely not get anyone remotely close to those players in their prime. That's the key, everyone thinks if we unload the overpriced stars, the Hawks can replace them with cheaper players who will actually improve the team. The Hawks are heading straight toward the tank, if not this year it will be coming soon.

A "rebuild" likely begins with Bowman eating or giving up "sweeteners" just for teams to take these insane contracts. So the Hawks will end up losing overpriced (though good) players, multiple picks or prospects and probably will get very little in return. If Bowman is able to prevent this team from being one of the absolute 2 or 3 worst in the NHL in 3 years he will have worked a miracle.

I am not mad about it, they got 3 Cups and I'm a Bears and White Sox fan, sucking isn't anything new to me, although now and then those teams do something special (1985, 2005). I'll be there. I'm heading to a Sox weekend next season, even though they'll stink again next year....

Yeah but at least the Sox are properly rebuilding. It's painful now but I think it will payoff in 2-3 seasons. The Bears on the other hand....

Yep, the Sox took a couple steps back for 3 steps forward. I suspect it will pay off handsomely. Next year will be poopty and fun all rolled up in one. But we'll start to see the seeds of what I think will be good times coming. It's actually a great move...the Indians are a powerhouse right now...rebuild while the Indians are rolling and as their window closes the White Sox window will open. We wont hear from KC or Detroit for a long time. It sucks to be on the outside looking in, but if Hahn can generate 5 or 6 years of perennial dominance and grab another WS ring then lets do it.

The Bears. What a joke that situation is. If healthy that defense can be pretty good I think, but there is virtually nothing on the offensive side of the ball. Kevin White is proving to be a bust. Bears are still 5 or 6 players away. The QB situation was a boondoggle with Glennon getting a big deal and then overpaying for Trubiskey, who I think has potential. This is the Bears...clown shoes all the way, I still mumble to myself when Fox challenged a play the Bears got to the 6 inch line...then they review it and go, "oh by the way, not only do you not have it at the 6 inch line you don't even have the ball". ...I quit caring about the season at that moment.

I've read a few things over there. JJ is still JJ, but some of those other guys are super doom and gloom. You'd think the Hawks were last place.

Really like what the Sox are doing here. I'm OK if they move Abreu, just hope they keep Avisail--I think he's finally finding his groove and he's still young. I think he could be a solid piece to this young core for the rebuild.

Glad JJ is still at it.

I don't think a couple 4th rounders was an overpay. Other teams had to move upper round drafts to get QBs in the late first. I question whether it was necessary to move up, but I'm no football GM. They need a fresh offensive mind in there for Trubisky. Fox is getting out coached every week.

I need to give it a good view before I judge it, though. Haha.

Agree and it sounds like the kids love Avi. I think he'd even sign an extension so when the Hawks arrive in 2019, he'd be a leader in the clubhouse. That said, Hahn has clearly said the Sox are open for business and Avi and Jose are about all that's left. I do like the catcher they got...he's going to be great for the young pitchers. It sucks that Burdi and Rodon are having arm troubles, those two have electric stuff. Burdi is a future closer and Rodon is a top of the rotation arm.

Yea that's kinda what I meant, I didn't think they needed to even make the deal. Trubisky had played 13 games EVER. That said, he has shown promise despite having the absolute worst receiving core in the NFL, that's to include poop shows in Cleveland.

Throw in a -5

Cried in off-season for big tough winger because hes so afraid to get hit

Maybe switch up your 88 jerseys

Again BUFF ARZ & FLA coming up so he will be back vs lower level teams

In response to Justin's long excellent post --

You csn look at other teams around the league with yheir personnel and their coaching and vompare to the Blackhawks

Yes, 100% we should get better results. The team is not responding well, not well very often. If you need to have Q hold a basics Q hockey system fundamentals for loke teo weeks....hey he did it a couple times and the team got off their bad ways....the expression off the schneid

But it is not just that. Q should be able to get more out of at least some of the players. If he cannot, relieve him asnd let him collect a paycheck as a scout.

I donot want to go round and round about the abysmal powerplay. But the star offensive threat on your team has to do more for the dollars he gets. If he is not prone to lead and not on his own volition going to succeed as the force on the team which can surprise - like Ottawa advanced far and Karlsson was a catalyst - well then maybe a new coach hire could challenge him. Make it fun.

There is also something to be said about Hartman, DeBrincat, Schmautz.

Hartman needs to get his act together. If he can show well you might consider trading him. Depends on the grand scheme. Is he part of the hometown roots and chemistry?

DeBrincat is worth trading only if someone would overpay. He can become scorer in this league but he also could be victimized due to his size.

Bowman needs at least one morr player who will go i din't want to say nuts, but would go immediately whack and speer their perpetrator and their star players. You have to set the tone, demand respect through your respons. answer the bell because inevitably there is always nastiness in this sport. You cannot feign indifference to nastiness.

With Schmaltz you just wait and see how good and how soon might Sikula become. Because if he is the resl deal, thennyou can trade one small offensive player since you are top heavy in them. Trade one for one type deal for a need or team weakness to be addressed. Wait until that trade comes along. May have to be patient.

There you go, a sensible approach. Bowman has been thinking long and hard, still evaluating. I will guess most moves he makes will be good. He cannot afford to blow any major trades.

With the cap going up next season, do you think that trading Seabs to a team like EDM, BUF becomes easier?

Avi has a strong arm and has really come around defensively. And this year at the plate he was fantastic--legit ripping the ball.

I've accepted that the catching position is a black hole for the Sox and kind of has been since AJ left and Flowers was a huge bust. I like Smith, but they lack a guy who poses a real threat to runners.

Rodon is disappointing--so much promise, but constantly hurt. I'm looking forward to Kopech.

I read that Jimienez is ahead of schedule in development,, which is good to hear.

Lastly, I'd like to see them get a different manajor. I feel like Rent is just there in this transition phase. Getting a guy like Girardi would have been cool--just my opinion.

Just addressing the CBA:

It’s apparent that the league is looking to expand to a 32nd team in Seattle by 2019-20 or the next year - another $500MM to split amongst themselves.

A lock-out / lost games / lost season would certainly put a crimp in that plan.

I’m thinking the owners would be much more willing to smooth player issues and keep the league going at a September 2019 re-opening, especially since the CBA would naturally expire after another 3 years.

- StLBravesFan

And you would be wrong on that point.

Even with the 50/50 revenue split, and the player's escalator clause, more than half the owners are still crying poor.

The money received for the first expansion team just about covers the losses from the train wreck known as the Coyotes - and those losses will continue going forward.

And from the player's side, well, they did not hire Donald Fehr as their new union boss because they are looking for another sweetheart deal for the owners.

It will be interesting to see just which side runs from the existing deal first - and from both sides, it can't come quickly enough.

They signed Wellington Castillo, who was toughest to steal on last year, hit .290 and cracked 15 or 16 homers. It was a great signing to bring along the pitchers.

Jimenez destroyed AA when he got called there. He may end up in Chicago toward the end of next year, but they may keep him in the minors to season. I don't think the Sox will be competitive next year but will show more promise, especially in the 2nd half as the kids get more experience, Rodon is back, etc.

Kopech? do they want him to get another year of seasoning. I doubt he makes it on opening day unless he blows people away in Spring. The big questions are when do you start putting these kids into the show??? I'd love for the Sox to compete next year, but it's probably 2019 before that starts happening. But I'll predict they are a .500 or better team after the ASB next year as the experience takes shape.

Like those lines , but think we need a change behind the bench 1st . The HAWKS hire 2 new coaches after firing 1 I believe this off season . Been banging the drum for two years since the 7 game loss to ST.L to get rid of Q .It's tough call for all he has been involved in with this team ,but I do think it needs to be done ..
