It's all about goals. The D has been good enough. Goaltending, (save last night ) has been good enough. Possession in the Ozone. Crashing the net. Playing in the middle of the ice, not the perimeter. Especially on the p.p. Shooting, would be good. Making that pass off the goalies leg pad. Shoot at the goalies ears.
I liked our game until the Caps 2nd goal. (Soft ) We need to score. First. Often. In the tough areas. We need urgency off the hop. If they can't do that, trade em all.

Saad Toews Panik. No cycle. No zone time. No physicality.
Scmaltz AA Kane. Perimiter play. One and done.
Sharp Hartman Cat. No physicality. One and done. Only Cat hustles.
Bouma Wingles Hayden. Playing the right way. Doing their job. Fun to watch.
Summation. Not good enuff.
That's all. |

Nice post. Agree. What lights me up is before the game the guys on tv say Backstrom hasn't scored in 21 games. I would have bet my truck he scores last night after hearing that, and sure as poop. |

Yea, and goalies seem to bring their vezna game against us. Perhaps because we shoot at their chest. |

Your "insignificant" trade of Kempney just might blow up in their faces once again.
He's a young big body, fast, and nasty dman that currently makes pinching mistakes, but so do the other dmen on this team. Let's just keep playing Franson and Seabrook all these minutes as the team continues to fall deeper in the conference. Many of us have called for INCREASED ice time for Kempney to see what we have here, but you know Q, it's all about the veterans. See M Rosival !!
Kempney has NO worth right now and trading him brings back literally nothing.
It's time for both Seabrook and Franson to alternate time off in the presser and allow Kempney to show what he's got for an extended period of time..... not 5 games. Heck Forsling was disastrous many time this year and look how he's turning himself into a top dman. I'll place this Kempney blame right at the doorstep of our HOF coach once again who didn't like the play of Nick Leddy, Trevor Daley, Steven Johns, etc, etc, etc !!
If we're going to keep losing to quality teams with the same guys, that's just plain insane and trading guys like Kempney without ever seeing what he has to offer show how inept our management is.
So let's keep giving all the minutes to guys like Patrick Sharp, Brent Seabrook, and Cody Franson........... not to mention the big dollar elephant in the room. - Hawkytalk
I have 0 problem with Kempney, I just think he/Debrincat/or Forsling are the most likely trade bait on the team.

Trade possibilities:
Seabrook (hold 2 million) plus Kane to Buffalo for a first .
Toews (hold 2 million) and Saad for a young quality center. |

With the cap going up next season, do you think that trading Seabs to a team like EDM, BUF becomes easier? |

how does that work?
from what i understand both Toews and Kane got 44mil of their contracts up front. cap hit is still 10.5mil but their actually salary is somewhere around 5.5mil!
not entirely sure how that would work if Toews was actually traded! |

What you saw last night was one teams core who has gotten older, but they still perform, and another who no longer perform at that elite level.
Its a bit sad, but predictable. They just aren't the team they used to be. Its time to rebuild. You are going to have to eventually, and why meander in mediocrity for a number of years before you rebuild.
I still think you can trade Seabrook (and I've always been a Seabs supporter) at the deadline to a team who is one vet Dman from realistic Cup championship. Retain money in exchange for extra pick.
Remember, we needed D depth bad, and traded for Kimmo at the deadline. Teams do stupid "in the moment deals" to try and win a cup.
Toews would look good with the Jets Centering their second or third line. Jets might just win a cup. |

Not quite sure what Q put in that blender, but I think it had too many ingredients from Binny’s! |

Highly doubtful Toews goes anywhere, but certainly not trading him to a team in their own division.
As Justin points out, Hawks activitiy might be more in the summer. The reality is their hands are tied with Toews, Kane, and Seabrook because of the amount and lengths of the contracts.
Chances are the Hawks are not going to quite give up yet trying to supplement their core, albeit aging. If the cap goes up a decent amount next year, they might try to add as much as possible in the mid level salaries to be competitive.

I'll believe the cap goes up when I see it. And I think the hawks management has learned their lesson about listening to the league about salary cap predictions. |

No.
McDavid and Eichel are set to cash in next year. Those teams especially Edmonton will be looking to shed salaries too.
GM's are just generally stupid. |

Bring Mike Keenan back - vandymeer23
Mike Keenan will never coach an NHL team again, and for good reason. He's terrible for players. |

Agreed. Nobody went to the net except Lance Bouma last night, and he got a goal. This perimeter poop has got to go. |

The cap hit stays the same. The new team assumes the contract as is. When a floor team takes on a big cap hit player, the contract was probably front loaded, with a current salary much lower than the cap hit. |

If, IF the Hawks want to move Toews you better believe they will trade him to ANYBODY willing to take him. Yes I am sure they would explore the EC first then the Pacific division but if WPG comes in with the sweetest deal, or hell even the ONLY deal, you do the move. |

Even if the Hawks dealt off 19, 7, 2, etc....they would get cap space, but would absolutely not get anyone remotely close to those players in their prime. That's the key, everyone thinks if we unload the overpriced stars, the Hawks can replace them with cheaper players who will actually improve the team. The Hawks are heading straight toward the tank, if not this year it will be coming soon.
A "rebuild" likely begins with Bowman eating or giving up "sweeteners" just for teams to take these insane contracts. So the Hawks will end up losing overpriced (though good) players, multiple picks or prospects and probably will get very little in return. If Bowman is able to prevent this team from being one of the absolute 2 or 3 worst in the NHL in 3 years he will have worked a miracle.
I am not mad about it, they got 3 Cups and I'm a Bears and White Sox fan, sucking isn't anything new to me, although now and then those teams do something special (1985, 2005). I'll be there. I'm heading to a Sox weekend next season, even though they'll stink again next year.... |
