It wasn't, so that's a good talking point. Gettinger was a little curious. Day is what he is. Talented human with poop for brains.

ive seen from the prospect guys i follow they were perplexed at both cuts.

thinking that while day is better than some options chosen ahead of him. i dont know much about the other prospects, care to enlighten?

i think gettinger has a chance to be a very good player. would have been nice to see

"He didn't get the win, but 16-year old Finnish goaltender Juuso Kopra still earned a standing ovation from teammates after making 100 saves in a single game."

thought they were doing ok, only down 2-0 after being outshot 32-6 in the 1st period... then were outshot 32-1 in the 2nd!!

Rangers goalie of the future????

the reality is since he left the Rangers he had an amazing 37 game regular season run with the Pens once they acquired him along with another great 24 playoff games in that first Cup. Wasnt much of a factor in last year's Cup

right now, Pens have the Hagelin the Ducks had

- jimbro83

You're right on with Hagelin here, Jim. He was the Pens key in sparking them to their first of their last two seasons Cup wins. When they fired Ed Johnston as coach to replace him with Sullivan, Sully had gotten off to a horrible start, with a much worse winning % than they had played under Johnston up to that season's point. Sullivan pushed for them to acquire Hags, which not only improved their penalty killing, but also stabilized their line combinations used from then on, through that Cup win.
The Rangers loss of Hagelin's assets that season, in key with his great speed & PK, is what prompted them to sign Grabner for the following one. Unless they fall out of the race prior to Feb. 26th's trade deadline, or suddenly decide to change their plans to more than just a partial rebuild, Grabner is a must for them to be re-signed, instead of him being dealt this time for the next Emerson Etem.

Without their puck luck of 4 Penguins shots hitting posts, and Buch's lucky goal redirected accidentally by Letang into his own team's net, the worries today would have still been their shortage of center depth to really be true contenders in the end, due additionally more currently to Zib's loss with his 5th NHL concussion known of at the least, which he sustained on Nov. 24th. But of more greater worry, would have been their backup goalie situation issue, with Hank out ill after making the team's last 14 straight starts to a 11-3-0 record.
Of Pavelec's best and key saves, barely any were of a higher quality type, in never robbing any Pens player, due to their quality of shots not being their best for their norm when tallying 43 SOG. He again left rebounds in "appearing to look shaky" at times, due mainly to his movement in the style of goal he simply plays. It appears he plays anywhere from the pre 2000's stand up style, up to in trying to adapt to today's game's faster speed, with covering the low parts of the net differently, but in a non current conventional looking means, resulting in a lack of consistent rebound control. He nearly even pulled a Scott Darling gaffe, when he missed on catching one slower head height shot with his catch glove, with the puck instead, also luckily (for the Rangers) striking off his goal mask, avoiding Darling's embarrassment.
NHL goalies are dropping like flies in suffering injuries this season, with Luongo being the latest out now for 6 to 8 weeks. The prices for backups will be rising. If the Rangers are indeed seeking that help, they should contact the Leafs about the availability of ex Avalanche goalie, Calvin Pickard, who is playing very well currently for their minor league, Marlies team.
Pickard played in 86 games (74 starts) during the past few seasons with the Avs, in having a very respectable 2.77 GAA and .914 Save% for that very struggling team. Last season, in being their #1 with Varlamov out, he played in 50 games (making 48 starts), with an also respectable 2.98 GAA and .904 Save %. Most of all, he plays an NHL goalie style representative looking of today's game. He is at least the equal of what Raanta was before he even became the benefit of Benoit Allaire here, when he was acquired from Chicago for Ryan Haggerty, on that same June 27, 2015 day that Talbot was traded to Edmonton.
**Update: Now Corey Crawford is also out injured for Chicago. The prices on backups just rose again even more higher within minutes.

Cliff notes.

Rangers need a center.

Pavelec is very shaky.

Limited pool of backups and high prices because of injuries,
