My own opinion was that there were several reasons.

1. The return was just too good, two first round picks are coin of the realm in a cap era. I would not be at all surprised if Hexy packaged that St. Louis pick to move up.
2. I don't think Schenn ever found a place in the lineup, and they felt the deal was so good they couldn't pass it up, even if it hurt them short term.
3. I also got the feeling Hak and Schenn maybe didn't have the most harmonious relationship.

Can't argue with any of that.

Bill any news on Ivan Fedotov? any clue what the flyers plans are with him at all? Is he even a legit prospect?
- rinaldo

I wouldn't call him a legit prospect at this point in time. So far he has 13 wins in 23 games...917 save % and 2.66 GAA
- YuenglingJagr

myself no idea just seems intriguing because of his size. Be curious if any plans to bring him over or place him in another euro league.

Is he in the top KHL league?

- rinaldo

Those were actually Henrik Lundqvist's 17-18 season stats, but I figured it would be sufficient for you

I agree though I think we're heading for a top 10 pick. I've argued were at the point where quality over quantity matters so maybe we could use the 2nd first rounder to move into the top 5 OR if we are already in the top 5 use the 2nd 1st to go get a young nhl forward. We also don't know who we might be selling off if this continues so we could have a plethora of picks to wheel and deal with.

I think this is spot on. If the Flyers finish in the bottom 10 of the league, perhaps their 2nd round pick packaged with St. Louis' first can get them into the 12-15 range. That would be awesome.

If his happens and say we draft a forward and defenseman with the two picks, I wonder if a current young dman gets flipped for offensive help

Certainly trust Hexy on draft day which is a big deal. Could do anything across the board from offloading current personnel to obtain more picks or stand pat and I'd trust his plan. He seems to have pulled the right strings so far on draft day.

Possible, but probably not right away unless we luck into the 1st pick overall.

Its been their biggest strength. Hopefully they have that same luck when they finally look to sign that FA "final piece". Though I don't see that happening for another two seasons. (2019-2020)

God knows the stopgap signings like Weise haven't been all that great. (I like Elliot)

You know we really could have interesting and active draft this year between the picks and current personal. If any player on contract still isn’t traded at the deadline, at the draft we could potentially see a top 10 pick (we look to be heading there for now (key word for now)), Simmonds could be traded, Gudas could be moved, and as mentioned, a d prospect could be moved IF we select another one since this draft is top heavy with dmen. Could be a very active and exciting draft. Especially if Hexy feels some heat and/or Haks is fired.

I could see it happening but probably not until we see all of our current core group at the nhl level. With guys we have in our system like hogberg Friedman etc this is going to happen eventually regardless. Even if we got fortunate to grab a guy like dahlin idk that you see a trade right away although it would force the issue.

Weise is the only one that bothers me. The goalies and guys like Gordon, Schultz and VdV are just short term stopgaps and nothing to get all worked up about, and I'm also ok with getting Elliott at 2.75 mil for 2 years rather than overpaying Mason. With Weise, I just don't get what Hextall saw in this guy to want to lock him up for 4 years. At most, I would have offered him 1.75 million per for 3 years and if he walks, oh well.

Darren Dreger was on TSN 1260 on Monday talking about the Philadelphia Flyers and how he thinks the Flyers want to remain patient. Dreger says that he believes the only way GM Ron Hextall would fire head coach Dave Hakstol would be because of pressure from ownership.

“So then you’re left with making a trade. And it depends on the pieces that he’s willing to part with. If he were ever willing to trade Wayne Simmonds, well, there would be people lining up to acquire Wayne Simmonds. But beyond that, it gets a little more complicated because anyone looking at the Philadelphia Flyers would be trying to pick his pocket, and would want some of his younger guys.

“So I suspect he’s going to try to do something trade-wise; but as hard as we’ve been digging on that front, no names that are significant or that would catch the attention of anyone out there have surfaced just yet.”

Hoping to see Konecny, Weal, and Patrick dominate in their combined 12 minutes of ice time tonight.

Without including the kids or a guy like Coots, the only players on the Flyers current roster that teams are going to have an real interest in are Simmonds and to a much lesser extent, Gudas. I'd be open to listening to offers for either.

Every team in the league would want Wayne Simmonds imo. Just not sure who would have the means to get it done. I would say half the league would take gudas. He has a moderate salary is younger right handed and is a feared hitter. I thought dreger pointing out that hexy wants to make a trade but everyone keeps just wanting the kids and hexy basically hangs up is the more interesting line.
