If you interpret soon as next season then yes that's getting a bit ahead. We'll know by tomorrow the roster announcements lets revisit then.
As far as the premise of making NHL it is not a lock but a legit chance which says more then those fringe players on weak nation teams from the past. That's the difference that should be recognized. - Nuck4U
Roster announcements are still preliminary, but to me a WJC roster spot is negligible to the prospects future. Its like Yzerman selecting the men's Olympic roster, it wasnt an assembly of the best players but a roster they thought they could win with.
For the premise of making the NHL, I dont think the prospects being considered for the tournament have had a substantial increase in their future potential from the draft to today. Some might see it different, but I think their chances remain fairly steady in the past 6 months |

As in be more then a fringe player and have a role. This does impact the team as Devils are an example.
You are looking at EP, OJ, Gadjovich., Lind, and Lockwood to name the main WJC players who will be looking to earn spots on the Canucks and change the look of the team. - Nuck4U
All of whom should be at the very least, a year away. Not next season. |

An absolute long shot that any prospect outside of EP makes the team next year, and thats assuming his off season goes perfectly (weight gain and strength). Gaudette and Goldobin have 150x the chance of making the team over any forward prospect playing in the WJC. WJC is still junior and is nothing close to the show. Jesse Pulj, PLD are a couple skilled kids who prove this |

Atta old man. I even said I wasn't going to drink but as a true fan I am going to drink for the team. |

So if you are drafted 1st or 2nd overall it's doesn't count? Matthews, Laine, Hischier.
What about Noah Hanifin? Matthew Tkachuk? David Pastrnak?
I think the list goes on and on both ways. |

Why devalue the exposure to elite level experience that the WJC brings? Scouts seem to focus on it and add performance there to evaluation of a player and their development. |

There is the whitelie problem. Going to miss out on good players because of such a thing. It's a junior tournament that the team wins by scoring more goals then the other team. |

It's a great way to see similarly aged/talented players play with/against each other, especially when comparing players playing in different leagues/countries. But the small sample size, large ice surface(sometimes), quick adjustments to a new team/linemates/system, etc needs to be factored in as well.
I also think point production gets overrated in short tournaments. EP for example didn't have a great stat line, but he played better than what his stat line showed.
You obviously want your team's prospects to play well, but I'd rather have a prospect have a great year with his junior/college/euro league team and a meh WJHC than vice-versa. Ideally they excel in both, but I'm way less worried about a mediocre WJHC tourney than a mediocre D+1 or D+2 season. |

I think the exposure is fine, but its not a sure-fire representation on a player's future. For some, getting cut is the massive motivator that leads to their development and not playing a bottom-6 role for Canada. Virtanen is someone who's career I think that benefited more from the AHL than all his WJC experience combined.
I think scouts focus on it for draft eligible players, because they are usually 17ish facing the best U-20 players, but for drafted players I dont think much stock is put into it. They love their players even if they get cut |

I totally agree, but hockey loves its "roles". They pass over highly skilled players for guys capable of "checking" or existing chemistry every Olympics. Brenden Morrow and Kunitz are a couple Olympians that I can recall getting selected over better talents for the sake of a winning roster |
