Revenue and season ticket base is actually up, despite the lower attendance. Canes report number of people actually in the building, not tickets sold/given away.

Since Rutherford left and Don Waddell took over as President, they've changed their approach and no longer give away 3000 seats per night as freebies because it was pissing off season ticket holders. They realized that it's hard to make money on tickets when you have a bunch of would-be buyers who just wait for free ones to come up so they can take those instead.

Yeah, attendance numbers look worse, but the number of people who have actually bought tickets has gone up. Canes made a small profit last year (about $2.2 million, not including the expansion money). First time they've made one without making the playoffs.
