Hopefully we can just draft our “OEL” this year...
“Fallin for Dahlin”

- jdfitz77

Or you could have both, have a defense that resembles the Preds.
OEL-Risto
Dahlin-New Guy
Guhle-Anitipin
Move scandella, McCabe and Beaulieu for depth upfront.

everyone but jack can be had, some for 80 cents on the dollar

some for 50 cents

for for $1.50 on the dollar

Hmmm
It might sound weird to say this,
Bc we’ve been so bad this year...

But it sounds to me like J Botts is overreacting

1) I don’t like “selling low”
It’s a horrible idea that almost never benefits you

2) this is J Botts fault!
You see teams like the Leafs last year & Devils this year, letting their young talent play & help the big club
Is there any doubt that some of our young players who are being kept in Rochester could’ve helped us more than Criscuolo, Griffith, Tennyson, etc?

I get why he wants to do that...
but it’s also at the detriment to this year’s Sabres by playing marginal AHL/NHL guys when we had plenty of young talent who could come up & help

the bigger news is the 7 million dollar man is on the trade block

- homiedclown

is that the $7.5m man? or the $6m man who was referred to as a $7m man?

Technically can't call it selling low till we see the return but in general i agree.

But for the second point. Those teams also have veteran talent that isn't dead weight. Makes it easier on the younger players. Im not big on the whole AHL development thing (at least to the extent that botts apparently is) but I think it's worth a shot.

It may be a detriment to this years sabres but this years sabres weren't going anywhere near the playoffs anyways.

I'm simply excited about knowing that Sprong, Mittelstadt and Nylander are bonafide top 6'ers next year. And Sprong is a top 3 winger. And we traded for Galchenyuk using ROR and got rid of Reinhart for an average Dman and an unknown commodity.

This is all very exciting.

We have TONS of “depth up front” ready to play when J Botts will allow them to come up...
assuming you’re just talking “bottom6”
Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, Rodrigues, Cj Smith, Asplund...
all are basically ready for next season
and most are ready NOW
Plus we still would have:
Pominville, Okposo, Girgensons & Larsson
We don’t need depth forwards at all

IF we do the trade u suggest, what’s our top6 look like?

Kane(?)-Eichel-_____
Nylander-Mittelstadt-_____

Um.... that’s “no bueno”

Not that I don’t like OEL
But you’re leaving us with HUGE holes up front
Bc plugging those with Pommer & Okposo next year, with 2 rookies, and MAYBE losing Kane....
the only guy in that top6 we can for sure feel good about is Eichel
We will be picking top5 again next season

Can you imagine this team if we had two more top 4 dmen that could drive possession, and the top 6 forwards played to their abilities, and the bottom 6 scored 25-30% of our goals? We'd be the Lightning.

"school is number one priority for me right now"

- MCGUIZZY

You’re reaching to draw the conclusion he wouldn’t want to sign just from that
If he declines a contract this summer,
then I’ll be worried
For now,
that just sounds like what every kid who is gonna play another year in college says

He even referenced his mom saying he “can’t play hockey forever”

Just sounded like the cliche answers you get to a question like that,
and not “I’m gonna play it out so I can sign somewhere besides Buffalo”

yea i mean this all stemmed from me saying I didnt get a great vibe from the interview (which I still dont). Didnt really expect it to get to this point. BUT since we are on the topic...I think it makes me worried anytime a draft pick wants to spend all 4 years in college. We will see but it kinda sounds like hes staying.

Agree...
but I’m not scapegoating legit players

I’m not trying to give these guys “a pass” as Homie says
But also,
Selling them for “.50-.80 on the dollar” is quite the reactionary decision when it seems J Botts put this team on the ice to “stealth “tank”
