It would be a F for D swap. Like Johansen for Jones.

I would explore it easily.

Casey Middlestadt is going to be a star IMO

- sbroads24

Do we have to trade O’Reilly NOW though?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to wait a couple years till we have a better idea on Mittelstadt?

I support this statement

Moulson is killing it in the A, when do you think GMJB calls him up to the big league?

How so? Johansen had the leverage. They made a big trade for him and they signed him to a massive deal. It's not like they were making that trade and saying "Nah, we will pass giving you 8 mil a year".

If Oreilly was 30, I'd agree a team is "stuck". But he's 27 with 5 and half years left.

Also, wasn't Oreilly's deal frontloaded? He's a dream for a budget team.

Makes 5 mil in actual cash after 18-19

- sbroads24

Did they sign him right after the trade?

Forgot about this part too. Is he due a bonus on July 1 this year? might be better off waiting till after it's paid like the leafs did with kessel

Edit: 7.5 this year then 5 mil ever year after.

If he was cleaning his place instead of having someone else do it, he wouldn't so much time on his hands to think that was a smart idea.

He'd have more value after this year IMO. However, how many years does he have left?

That salary is tough. He's a legit #2 C but is definitely over paid for the numbers he's putting up in Buffalo. Again, he's basically playing 3rd line type shutdown role though. I wonder how much buffalo would have to retain to get proper value? I'd think that teams would be willing to take on Jordan Staal type salary cap hit of 6 mil.

It's one of these lockout/buyout proof deals too. It's going to require some serious savvy on Botts part to make this work while getting a good return

He's playing a 3C shutdown role while the fans expect 2C production. The bottom line is that the bottom six is so leaky that we can't put ROR out in advantageous ozone situations because the 3rd line can't hold the fort. He is THE shutdown forward put in a position where he can't win. Can't produce with his over useage because everyone under him is in way over their heads so he has to take their roles as well.

Combine that with playing with a third liner (pouliot) and okposo's early season struggles and he looks bad.

Agreed, but if this locker room is split like we've been told, I choose Eichel.

Trade him

They were at the Bills game together though. I don't buy any hearsay about that.

I don’t really think that’s true though.

Any D man we’re taking back is going to cost money now or if he’s younger on his next deal.

What we’d be looking for is like a Trouba situation

Botterill is the cap genious that put the pens in a position to have the same team for back to back cups. If anyone can figure out the correct amount to keep and get good value its him. Plus, ROR is pretty young. I'd think that if he held onto 1.5/year you'd have plenty of contenders willing to make a move. Especially if he took a slight salary dump back for a shorter term.

It's the type of deal that Rutherford loves. The right player at the right price like Kessel. If buffalo took on someone like Hagelin I could see Pitt moving a D-man, prospect and a pick for someone locked up that long.

I think the whole thing is overblown. He has Toews-like stats at 2.5m less. He s hardly an albatross. The fact that people want to trade him to save on the cap or whatever is just dumb imo, especially when the talk turns to "we'll, they might not be able to get much." You are guaranteed to trade away the best player in deal in O'Reilly
