I think the only way we trade Oreilly is if we are getting a now player that fits the uptempo mode better. We wouldn't trade him for futures
- MCGUIZZY

It would be a F for D swap. Like Johansen for Jones.

I would explore it easily.

Casey Middlestadt is going to be a star IMO

Could be. I guess you just need to be careful with the Mittelstadt thing. He could stay another year or not sign right away.

Has Faulk fallen that far out of favor?
- Wetbandit1

according to canes fans not named bingo, he cant play the defense goodly

My guess is either the defensive zone play has gotten much worse or his offensive play has dipped to a point where it's not enough to cover up for his d-play.

except in this scenario we'd probably be taking back someone who's fallen out of favour

I have no knowledge but Mittelstadt seems like he will be eager to turn pro and start lighting it up. No way he finishes college imo, or even a sophomore year

Not neccessarily.

Johansen was flat out benched by Torts and they got a stud back for him.

You need to find a team with a need, and that has a surplus.

A lot of it depends on how good Minnesota is. If there season ends early enough he'll probably want to sign and burn year one of his entry deal.

What was Johansens salary when they moved him?

Edit: 3 years 12 mil. Im not sure it's comparable.

Did they not extend him that year? I'm not sure the point?

They were in control of how much they were going to pay him. The team that acquire ROR is going to have to live with the cap hit.

He's been... not great. Dunno what it is but he's been far less effective than he should be.

Think it's more borne out of the Canes need for scoring help than anything, though.

How so? Johansen had the leverage. They made a big trade for him and they signed him to a massive deal. It's not like they were making that trade and saying "Nah, we will pass giving you 8 mil a year".

If Oreilly was 30, I'd agree a team is "stuck". But he's 27 with 5 and half years left.

Also, wasn't Oreilly's deal frontloaded? He's a dream for a budget team.

Makes 5 mil in actual cash after 18-19

Basically. He's been just fine from his blueline out, but in the D zone he's been a turnover machine.

When the rookie D man is bailing out his D partner (AND CAPTAIN) out over and over again, you've got a problem.

I cant compare it to today's product because I haven't gotten high in about 30 years, except one weekend I spent with friends in Denver when I just hallucinated and slept.

Back then the best buds you could get were about the size of a strawberry, and they had lots of red hair coming out of the bud. None of this chrystalline stuff you see all the time these days, though.

His cap hit is 7.5MM for the entire deal

Honest, serious question:

Is there really a need for Scott Wilson? I understand a 5th round pick is a pretty meager asset to give up, but is Scott Wilson really the answer to any of the Sabres issues?

- eichiefs9

Honestly, Wilson offers a decent amount. He's a fast, straight line player that will hit and grind in the offensive zone. This is the EXACT type of depth player that every team needs. He can move up and down the roster, doesn't make mistakes, and has a good shot and ok hands. It's a small move, but a very good step.

I get that, but his deal was front loaded with bonuses.

Any D man we’d hypothetically move him for is going to cost $
