I am torn. Want a loss because it might make them get rid of Varsity earlier.

A win would be nice for the mental side of the kids.

Kind of apathetic really, as long as the youth gets a poop load of playing time.

*awaits disappointment*

Anything but another overtime loss. And yeah, big minutes for the kids would be nice.

Vague and deflecting. There are many facets to a teams systems play. What I named is the basics of how the Flyers play. Many other facets to a teams systems play include defensive zone coverages, break out schemes both in play and controlled, neutral zone and defensive zone regroups. Faceoff coverages and set breakouts.

Just because you are unaware and don't have the knowledge of how the Flyers play, doesn't mean the very common terms I used is a funky name pulled out of my ass. You disqualify yourself with that comment.

Like I said, let's talk systems. Ready when you are.

Man you really don’t know poop.....stick to being the Flyers chief apologist and don’t use lip_outs description of you to describe me. Use your big words but your lack of understanding basic hockey principles shows through...any one that has played house league would know your full of poop.

Know what the sick side of me wants to see? Konecny takes a penalty to put the team down late which allows Calgary to tie it up.

Patrick gets sent out for the shootout and completely fails.

(I actually do not want to see this)

Lavy was a much more aggressive forecheck....nueutral zone trap...left wing lock...1-3-1 NZT or a 1-2-2....those are common. A “flyer lock style neutral zone forcheck” is a made up name....by the way forcheck is a term used for checking the other team in their own end not in the Nuetral zone...totally made up.

You're cracking me up! Seriously. You think "Flyers" was part of the name of the system! That's hysterical

Yep, neutral zone forecheck is totally made up. You disqualify yourself.

So you can google....but you still have no clue what they are...or that the Systems you continually quote are made up of a lot more then one aspect...you really know less then I thought.

Lavy was a much more aggressive forecheck.
- landros 2

That was a cute little trick they used to do a lot under Lavy: One forechecker slows up the puck carrier on the boards and the other forechecker hauls ass, actually loops behind the net and catches the puck carrier from behind. They made it work a lot.

About 5 years ago, I had the chance to ask an NHL player who had just gotten traded what the differences were in systems and such and he said most everybody plays pretty much the same way, the big variations are really on the power play and that's about it. Certainly, some teams have variations in how they play and how they're coached but I thought it was an interesting comment.

Speaking of angst. I checked my PM's (never do) and there are a few from you in 2015? That I was an ass or something? Have no recolection of that. Thought we were cool.

I think Hextall should let Patrick join team Canada for world juniors.Kid has had a rough 18 months. Not much going for him since joining the flyers.I think it would benefit him greatly if he could go.Give him a chance to dominate and build confidence. Maybe it leads to a better 2nd half with the flyers.

Exactly which is why systems are really overblown by a lot of fans. There's a lot of mixing and matching that goes on but it's all stuff that has been passed down from coach to coach throughout the years. It's like Hextall said when he was asked, all systems work. It's just a question of who can dictate. We saw it in the Sharks game. Once they got the lead, they sat back, choked up the neutral zone, and forced the Flyers to slog through without any speed and dump it in. They made the retrievals and easy breakouts because the Flyers had no speed to get in on the forecheck. They had the size advantage to control the puck battles when there was some. Vlasic was dominant.

How about in the Boston game when Patrick made that bad drop pass that led to a breakaway goal against? How come he hasn't been scratched for that?
- MJL

Well, he did get benched for it. But you know why the recent #2 pick wouldn't get scratched so early into his career. It would be a PR nightmare and look like he's being scapegoated the team failing. I see veterans make worse plays *cough Filppula* and only get rewarded for minutes, so don't act like there's not a double standard. But they also have no other center. Are they going to roll Flip-Lehtera down the middle? Don't think so.

Yea, Hakstol seems very worried about the PR nightmare. That really seems to come into his decision making when he has benched Gostisbehere or Konecny. You make the foolish comment of so don't act like there's not a double standard when I've repeatedly said that veterans are treated differently than young player are. It's always been that way. Fair or unfair.

Very true....some teams sit back a lot more then what I remember ever seeing ...you never used to see no forcheck and 5 guys in the nuetral zone. But hockey is hockey....some basics will never change. I liked lavy’s aggressiveness because guys were always skating.

If you're up 2 goals in the 3rd, you aren't sending 2 men deep on the forecheck and if you're down 2, you aren't playing the trap. I think the word system is really just a fancy term for the way a coach wants his team to play. Staffs usually have a bag of tricks that work for them. They'll make game to game adjustments and game plan for specific players. The Flyers certainly were doing that in the home opener vs the Caps. They had a guy follow OV to the locker room.
