No idea. At the end of the day Hex could tell any coach, including Hak that he wants to see more ice time to the kids, or manage the call ups differently.
As much as I dislike Varsity, this is not purely on him by any means. I just think they really value vets. Unfortunately most of the vets on the club are complete turds that wont do much to help the kids. Flyers arent playing Jagr or Williams, its Weise/Fil. - flyer_nutter
I agree that it's not 100% Hak's fault. But when the team is playing uninspired, disorganized hockey, and when the young players are getting benched for mistakes and vets are not (remember, we're supposed to let them live and learn), I'm all for beheading him with a Norse battleaxe.

I do find it amusing that it took this 10 game losing streak for people to turn on Hak. And literally only the last game or two. They haven't been as bad as the streak indicates, minus the last two poop shows. I also find it amusing that if Hakstol gets a win or a few points this trip that his job is saved. Really? We don't have enough to go on? That's always a silly thought that if you're considering firing a guy that one or two games should drastically change anything.
It's the same team from last year. It was just in a somewhat unlucky streak that has now snowballed into disastrous. But the process of his coaching -- evaluating, systems, temperament, inability to change -- has been a failure for a long time before this wonderful 10 game stretch (go for 11!). If that's what it takes to get him canned, good. But it also doesn't negate that even if they went 4-6 or something, he is not a good coach and has shown no reason to trust that he can grow as a coach and should be fired. Only thing it should've possibly changed is when. That's on Hextall too for hitching his wagon to this guy and his brand of boring, safe, butt hole clenching, regressive hockey that he appears to want as well. If it comes down to wins and losses, fine, but Hextall has shown no sign that he is bothered by the process.......he endorsed it just the other game. And he should be bothered. And he should look inwards at what he is doing wrong too. It's not just Hakstol; it's an organizational direction and philosophy that needs desperate tweaking or we'll end up with another Hakstol. - Mononoke

Nahh but with Hex keeping him aboard, and going further out and clearly endorsing him its kind of disturbing. It's not like Hex cant go and voice his displeasure. I truly think both are on the same page.

But Pederson has been doing really well prior. I'm not talking about over reactionary WIP listening fans. People have long criticized Hakstol with actual evidence and gotten the, "You think you know more than the coach/GM/Wells Fargo waste collector?!" treatment.

Hope they don't make any knee-jerk reactions and change anything up. After all, they haven't been playing poorly. Keep rolling out the Manning/Weise/Lehtera trifecta of terror.
Also, hope they continue to make sure that players like Konecny and Weal get singled out for benching, as they were the only two players that didn't play well and make mistakes. - jmatchett383
I'm without confidence from top to bottom when it comes to this organization. I mean, say whatever you want about Paul Holmgren, the youth movement started with him, while staying competitive. When the cupboards went bare, he had the balls to move a big name and fill them up again.
This vision Hextall has, it's coming really slow. This is his fourth season, guys. Where are we going with this outside of subtracting and cheating out on misfits free agents.
I don't think it's beyond reason or logic to re-evaluate the direction we're going on and re-evaluate the leadership on this team. Red flags everywhere for me when Hakstol chose Sanheim over Morin out of camp. I'm not knocking on Sanheim, the kid is clearly going to be a star but if he's not gonna be allowed to produce points in offensive situations, than what is he doing here? Morin is more than capable of doing what Sanheim already is. This is my biggest issue.
My second biggest issue is all of our eggs in one basket on that top line. We basically wash out the other team's top line, while our bottom nine looks below average. Heck, the top line is fizzling out. I don't want to hear what Jake Voracek has to say, he's the weak link at the moment by hot dogging out there in terms of playing anything resembling defense.

I'm just pointing out that most fans are fickle bastards who can flip their viewpoint on a team 180 degrees based on the result of the most recent game.
I think that a large majority of the people that you think have instantly turned on Hak have been either of the fence with him or people that didn't especially like him. I doubt that any fervent Hak supporters have suddenly turned in the span of 2 games.

People can be behind a coach and hit the point where they have had enough. Not sure what the point is. I loved Laviolette but thought it was time to move on.

The point is Lavi is a good coach. What reason were people behind Hakstol before this losing streak? The point is the process has been an unmitigated failure for a long time. It just took a big moment for people to get on the same page. And they don't even recognize the long gestating failure part probably.

Exactly. Who is Hakstol motivating and how? I've heard great things about him as a developer in young talent, which might be true. Ghost looks like a complete player most nights, I think you could credit Hakstol for Ghost. Other players, Provorov in my opinion is getting by on his own merit. Does Konecny look better than last year? Not really. Is Sanheim getting offensive opportunities? Again, no. He took Hagg off the top pair in favor of MacDonald.
As an entire group, do they look fired up? I thought Simmonds did a good thing finally fighting a guy like Miller Saturday but what did it do for the team? Nothing!
