I know that this is the best thing for the franchise, but as an old guy, I feel bad for Matt.
- Der Kaiser

I feel for him too. It's not his fault he was offered a preposterous contract. What was he supposed to say, "no, i'm not worth it"?

But, great move. 1 of many I hope

Risto for Nylander?

At least its a real discussion...

Everyone on the Sabres can be had for the right price at this point

- Stripes77

I guess, but when you have the worst D in the league, you don't make it worse by trading one of your few good contracts

if theres a market for Lehner it would be dumb as hell to not trade him

i think hes better than he gets credit for but hes nothing to be afraid to lose

3 pick lottery makes securing last not really even worth it

if you can get better now, i'm not letting a 7 out of 100 extra chance at dahlin stop me

- robz228

Picking in the top 4 or 5 is pretty important.

Picking 8th just isn't good enough

It's not just dahlin , there are 3 franchise defenseman

Yes, with our luck we won't be getting the first pick, but Dahlin isn't the only high-end Dman in this draft, he's just the consensus #1. We still need to lock down someone just like the Bills need to lockdown a QB in this draft, and winning on the backend of a failed season hurts that.

1. Stay the course, get a top pair dman early in this draft.
2. Keep the kids in Rochester, that's where our winning culture will come from, not from 1 or 2 panic trades here, we've been down that road before.
3. Fire sale. Bad contracts, bad attitudes need to become a priority at moving for prospects and picks.

This is a good deep draft, we should load up on picks. If dumbass Murray would have kept the boatload of picks we had in the 2015 draft we would not be in this situation now.

BEADY EYED DOUCHE is the only person I know who could move to Alabama and thereby make the population of both New York and Alabama smarter at one and the same time.

Rig your simulator so the Sabres always win. Bill Daly takes that thing as gospel.

bill daly hates it because ever since it got popular they've released less and less info about the lottery to make it fun

I don't follow college hockey too much, but it does look like we have a couple of D prospects doing well. Anyone have more insight on guys like Jacob Bryson, Casey Fitzgerald, William Borgen or Philip Nyberg?

If GMTM drafted them, AHL lifers. If Botts drafted them, future hall of famers. In the words of Rich Eisen, "Dare I say it? En fuego."

Borgen looks legit, best we have behind Guhle, still a year or two away, though. Everyone else is a long shot.

And if it wasn't for murray moving removing every ounce of nhl and high-end ahl talent on the team, Nolan probably would have guided the them to a low-20's finish

I actually think Fitzgerald could be legit. Plays the offensive style that we need. Could turn pro this year

Yeah, I would put him next behind Borgen, but currently if I had to put odds on the kid, 3 years 10% chance.

Well hes in year 3 of college and has had a pretty good career so far. Wears the C. I like his chances of at least getting signed this year or next. I also have a bad vibe about Borgen. He sounded very non committal when asked about his future with the Sabres. But we will see. Honestly i think Guhle, Borgen are semi overrated due to the lack of talent at the postion in the organization.

Didn't hear of Borgen's possible distaste for the Sabres, that's disappointing. I hate that CBA rule and hope they dump it. If a college player wants to leave his drafting team he should have to sit out for a year.

I also think our D prospects are a touch overrated due to lace of competition. Hell, I look NHL caliber next to Martin.

It was during his interviews at dev camp this year. Hard to really tell. Maybe just me but thats the vibe I got. I think if anything, the team that loses a player via free agency should get a draft pick from whatever team signs him. The draft pick should be whatever round that player was originally drafted in.
