Kessel is a perfect example of a player who was run out of town and sold for nickels on the dollar in part because he supposedly didn't care about playing defense.
- Feanor

I don't want Voracek run out of town. I want him to improve his play away from the puck. No reason why he can't.

The best player Hexy has added to the roster over the bulk of his tenure has been Michael Del Zotto. 4 off seasons. It's no wonder they are where they're at.

Hextall has not been very active on the free agent and trade front by choice. He isn't looking to use those methods to improve the team to win immediately.

This post confused me a bit from someone who feels that the coach really has no influence on players cause they make a lot of money and should self improve/motivate themselves.
So is the coach now responsible for fulfilling the "tons of improvement" and if not look at changes?

- Konalover

I'm not surprised that you're confused. I think you're confusing my belief that a coach should not have to motivate players to be ready to play before every game, with stating that coaches don't coach players to improve.

Voracek "cost the team points in the standings"

Sure. In 3v3 OT which isn't even hockey. Good thing he's one of the only things preventing them from being dead last in the NHL. But he cost them OT! WHY DOESN'T HE NO TRY! I wish we had someone more reliable.

Preferably for a goal scoring top tier goalie.

Jake's turnovers and penalties at dumb times are definitely a factor in this recent slide they aren't the total reason but they contribute. As I have said after some of these games. It may be time after one of his turnovers (not in overtime of course) to sit him a few shifts or drop him to say line 3 for them few shifts. Dude isn't playing his best hockey right now and might need the kick in the ass.

Voracek's breakdowns defensively have not just been at 3 on 3 in OT. They've come in a variety of situations including at 5 on 5. He's also taken a number of lazy penalties and cost his team a PP at key moments. For a veteran with a high cap hit and a player that is relied on for leadership, he needs to clean that up. He doesn't get a pass because of his offensive production and any statement that he does is disqualifying.

Come on.

We all know that if anyone thinks this team's issue is because of any one player, including the goalies, then they aren't seeing things objectively.

However, this doesn't excuse Jake from the dumb penalty to kill a PP or being lazy on a back check.

When your team is on a losing streak, in my opinion, i expect Jake to help lead the team out of that losing streak, not contribute to extending it.

I think it is a good thing people expect more out of Jake, this simply means they know Jake is a damn good player and can be better then he has been.

Good players lose you games too. It happens since they're the ones out in the critical situations to win you them also. Voracek has been a beast this year. He's one of the few things holding this team together from bottoming out. Why he gets hyper-criticized for several individual mistakes is beyond me. He's not immune to point out some boneheaded plays, because he makes them now and again, but it's a bit much the way he gets criticized. The fact that they're even in these OT situations and whatnot to have mistakes magnified......a lot is going wrong before that.

We have the bulk of the roster actually doing nothing to help win games either. And putting in the work to help lose them. To say nothing of the staff whose fingerprints are all over this team's current state. I pop in here and read all about how bad Ghost, Voracek, Gudas, etc. are and how they're the biggest culprits in how poor this team is. It's truly befuddling.

I wish this team had 3 more Voraceks. We'd actually be winning.

The son is an awesome guy, last year I couldn't get him to a game. He went to the season ticket holder meet and greet instead with me. That was the day I decided no matter how bad Simmer plays I want him a Flyer for life. I'll still rant and rave about his bad play but "Damn that dude is so cool"

I have three close friends with children serving this country and if they get home during season they go to games. It's the least anyone can do for those brave souls who protect our country.

Absolutely well put. The huge cap hit magnifies his struggles.
