In my opinion, the PK is only as good as the player who needs to be the best player on this ice during that time, the goalie.
They Flyers goalies over the last season and a quarter have been meh at best.
Better goaltending covers up the breakdowns that the PK will experience being a man short. - ggunky
I’m starting to get the sense you aren’t thrilled with the flyers goaltending

I've been down on the coaching staff for a while and felt they should have been changed last offseason. The same problems that existed early in Hak's tenure still exist today. We have a 2.5 year sample size and the team has played at a 90 point pace over that time. That gets you the 18-20th best record. It's hard to look at that as a success considering the team has made a concerted effort to be competitive (playoff caliber). The team still struggles to score at even strength, they still can't kill penalties and the power play is still predictable.
I would be more open to keeping him if the younger players were showing progression under his tutelage, but each of them seems to get completely lost for long periods of time. I understand that young players struggle, but I haven't really seen any of them adding skills or removing bad habits of their games. They all seem like the same players they've been. - PhillySportsGuy
Well said and I agree 100%. Currently the Flyers are a joke and everyone outside of Philly can see it except Coma Man and his Puppet Man Hakstol. |

He's a great coach. Just needs more talent. - Mononoke
HaHa too funny Like B. Schenn, haha This is hilarious, need more talent and we trade Schenn for peanuts. Blaming Elliot is absurd with all the quality chances against. Neuvy has been a disaster.
Awesome blog Bill Meltzer, calling it like it is. The stats do not lie and this season is going to go down like none other, and this is not going to be good. I can't wait for the day the two clowns get the axe! |

I know who I am talking to but seriously, how can you call the return for Schenn peanuts when we still don't know the full return? |

Really their biggest issue is the turnovers, and by no means is this a groundbreaking comment. - Giroux_Is_God
I thought that the biggest issue is that the next Magic Johnson shoots free throws at a high school sophomore level. |

The Flyers goaltending isn't very good.
I know Bill talked about it is how you react after allowing the first one in.
It is also the timing of the key save or the timing of the goal you allow. The Flyers goalies haven't come up clutch. Sure they have had stretches of damn good play, but then will allow a horrible goal and the team wilts or the complexion of the game changes.
Good goaltending also helps to breed confidence.
When you trust that your goalie is going to stop all the makeable saves and then steal one or 2 that maybe he shouldn't, that give an air of confidence to the guys infront of them that they don't have to play "perfect" hockey to win.
Look at the San Jose game. G comes out scores in the first minute then Nuevy allows 2 goals, that he HAS TO STOP, and bam! That game was a total disaster.

I don't see that. There are many players on this team who have room to improve from where they are now. Also have to look at how younger players such as Sanheim and Patrick progress the rest of the season. Many ways to measure progress. - MJL
Yes but improvement by youth growth is not a quick process. Look how long it took for Couturier and Schenn to break out. It took years. The Fact is the Flyers subtracted a lot of experience with MDZ and Shultz. The lack of experience is showing this season. Skill isnt everything. We also lost Schenn who was a 60 point guy prior and replaced him with Weal on the 2nd line who will be lucky if he hits 40 points. |

Not looking for them to reach their apex as players. Looking for progress and forward movement in the process. Not looking for the process to be complete. |
