I think the emergence of Forsling and Rutta as a reliable 2nd pair that can play big minutes on the PK means the need for a Dman is less dire. 3rd line center is the biggest need IMO.
EDIT: What the Hawks really need is for Brent Seabrook to remember how to play hockey like he used to. - EnzoD[/quote]
his memory is not the problem... |

Saw the rumor chart and hawks in on Ian cole what would the hawks have give up to aquire him and he is ufa at years end i don't think the price would be like acquiring vatanen - Scott1977
The question about whether I Cole helps Chicago become better is all about two criteria:
* how much better will Chicago be, and how much better can i Cole himself perfom in a differenr role/environment
* what would it cost
Cole was a first round choice. He is big and can be mean. When drafted he was considered an above average skater. He was unable to gain a regular spot in St Louis after a few seasons which included minor league time. The issue seemed to be consistency. Cole settled into a 5th slot defensive defenseman slot all the while for a season as the Penguins had players moving in an out of practicly a MASH unit. Reports are that he acquited himself well.
NOW he would be expoecting to double his roughly 2017 $2.1 mill expiring contract. The Penguins are forced to go wuth others in Cole role as the other can handle the job adequately but they would be recent AHL graduates paid much less. It is a money issue. This is IMHO
You have someone who could develop into what Cole has done, which is Murphy. Murphy all around could be better and lately appears efficent on his of sidr
You also have Kempny, the only dman prospect who likes to play tough but Kempny also can skate and previous to his NHL arrival was used on the PP - i think because he is a mobile skater and can pound a good slapshot. Q does not trust him.
The only answer and way to regular work is to give him regular NHL TOI & not totaly sheltered minutes. Kempny has been noted to have brain farts in decision making. It is a miscast view to give this label; he would prove one way or the other if given playing time
Kempny could be the asking price. So too one of the forwards at Rockford. Or guess whom because we have no insider knowledge what compensation if the GM's even had dialogue.
Cole provides an upgrade part or all of this year while other youngsters improve. Perhaps Cole could become a descent second pair...that is his upside. I see him as holding value for toughness, mobility and provides good depth.
It is asking a lot to expect more from him, although maybe possible. You have a few offensive guys plus mobile more two way game Carlsson (who can really skate) as prospects vieing for a spot as early as next year. One of those prospects might break into the NHL soon. Eventualy Cole will become a $4 mill 5th dman. Can your salary cap fit him in? Don't overpay for him in a bidding war. |

Good insights and points I agree with a lot of what said in think getting a 3rd line center is must need right now |

In the last blog, Wiz threw out if Panik and Kempny were enough for Evander Kane. Any thoughts on that? And how does the cap work with our LTIR situation? E. Kane makes 5.2 million and is unrestricted. He would be a rental. Panik makes 2.8 and Kempny makes .9, so that only comes to 3.7 million. So we would be taking on 1.5 million in salary. Is that possible with the 2.4 in LTIR we have....or do the numbers work differently when a trade is involved? - onehundredlevel
Heck NO.....NO WAY !!
I'm sorry but you do not trade Panik. He had been in a slump lately, yes, but you just don't trade size and speed in the same player. He probably is best as a 3R
to help this team the most because at least then, he would start hitting again. His game is at its best when he's taking the body and maybe the 1R has him thinking of scoring too much. He does not have the best of hands as we all know.....but I sure don't want to trade him for Evander Kane. We have other assets that can accommodate that trade if need be. We only have 1 other player on this team with both speed and size....Brandon Saad.

Who complained about Hossa? There were constant posts about him being “done” and people wanting to trade him for all kinds of crap and ways to lose his cap hit |

And you know the Refs are gunna be looking to even up the penalties the next two periods.....ANOTHER opportunity. A single shot on goal would be an improvement for the PP this period..... |

Kane lifts a stick and penalty shot. Forsling gets chopped in the hands plus hooked and no call. (frank)ing brutal. |

Damn refs, always out to get Chicago. Are you people serious?
Meanwhile back at the ranch, the team played that period like they had been doing shots before the game...poor passes, badly played pucks, not skating with the opponent, but yea lets complain about the refs even though the Hawks have had FOUR Powerplays, which they've DONE NOTHING with (other than give up a goal).
I swear some of you people wouldn't be happy unless the Hawks were on the PowerPlay for 60 minutes. |

What a poop show. Stars can't stay out of the box, hawks can't do poop on the PP, and the refs couldn't be more inconsistent.
Can't (frank)ing watch. Done for tonight. |
