not at 34 with 5 mildo cap for the next 5...

The real problem is the potential recapture penalties the Hawks could face if Keith decides to retire. Other teams may find this to their advantage.

Financially the incentive for him to keep playing diminishes salary wise every year:

$5,000,000 this season
$4,500,000
$3,500,000
$2,650,000
$2,100,000
$1,500,000

Are you sure Keith's contract is one that meets the Recapture rule? His pay each year decreases a small amount in comparison to the entire contract. I thought only contracts that were designed with very large pay decreases are eligible fore the recapture penalty (which is a joke anyway - there is no way the league would ever enforce it). It was only an empty threat.

Q has to get Kempny back in the fold and playing. Guy has great wheels, will hit and has a good shot.

Don't know. could be when it strained a quad last night in the 1st - just my speculation. He looked off after that.

I have been on vacation this and have had nasty cold also know how u feel. I the more pressing need is center especially 3rd line instead d man not that hawks don't need one . i also mention that if edmonton contiues to fall that maybe that maroon or lestu might be options going forward.
- Scott1977

I am with you, a 3rd line C would be nice. That will be easier to find or they are hoping one emerges from Rockford that they can test on a trial basis.

I would stay away from any forward Edmonton is looking to trade you. Their biggest issue right now is team speed, so they would be looking to shed extra weight in that department. The Hawks need to continue to improve in that area as well. They've come a long way since their early struggles but could still use some help.

What My eye test saw...

1. Panak has reverted back to his original form
2. SHOOT THE PUCK! Geez, seems like there is always 1 too many passes, 8 leading that bunch
3. Our guys handling the puck were not just check, they were plowed over, e.g. 8, 19
4. Kaner is trying almost too hard if that's possible
5. Props to 40 - flat out hustles all night
6. Cro has seemed a step off since Malkins "Ultra clean glancing blow to the noggin" Does he need his annual 10 day retreat?
7. Our PP revolves around perimeter passes with bad slap shots form the blue line.

As I stated way above, I am not a half full or empty person. I think we are seeing a mid pack team play mid pack hockey. No line blender will fix this.

Corey placed on IR

6.Great call, although it might be his groin, which explains how he couldn't move
all night.

Time for SB to sell, the rebuild is upon us, for as good as Forsberg might be I
don't see him being a savior, hope I'm proven wrong though.

They might have has the least amount of games lost due to injury, so the odds have to catch up at some point.

RE Crawford to the IR: Stan had a very underrated signing this summer... JF Berube.

He's 26 years old & although he's only got 21 NHL games under his belt, spent majority of last year with NYI.

Chances are, he gets his 1st start as a #blackhawks on Sunday.

Looked that way sure JL and he barely moved on the penalty shot.
He gutted it out rest of the way. Might have been a mistake to do so. \
Groin injuries for goalies especially are HELL.

Yep - tend to be reoccurring and take more and more time to heal with age.

Whatever it is with Corey, let's hope it's minor.

forgiven

Groins take awhile to heal, especially at the goalie position, that could
be the season in a nutshell slow to heal.

as suspected by a few here during the game...craw did not look right after a save early in the game where he may have strained his groin...

well maybe this will light a fire under this team to get their team game together in front of guy I think has one only 2-3 NHL wins in regulation...

or we could be facing something here we have not seen in over 10 years...a season being over by january

I will say it again... If this team continues its .500'ish play and it looks like we are a non playoff team I trade Duncan Keith at the deadline. There is a playoff team that would take him for that final push. Lots of issues, but our D core is a mess. 2 and 7 have been studs/work horses you name it, but its time for some serious change over.
- z1990z

I still lean towards the likely scenario being 2, 19, and 88 are here for a while; minimum this season and next then see if the CBA gets opened up again and who knows what happens after that. Keith has value though.

Me too.

There would have to be a massive spin to this illustrious Chicago Blackhawks brand for Rocky, John & Co. to allow that to happen.

If they falter again this year, at least they can still paint the picture that "there's still hope to win" with these guys next year.

Which is why I think this core has another 1-2 years left to "figure it out". Not all on them obviously, but the optics of this team still being a contender (despite what some think) is still there.

After that though, if nothing changes, it'll be open season.

Yep, this makes sense. I thought he was just off. While he made some good saves last night, overall it was one of his weaker performances...he was guessing a lot, tells me he was physically compromised.

Anton Forsberg...you're next up!! First game? At Dallas. He did quite well at Nashville so maybe he can hold the fort down.
