Virtanen - Bo - Boeser should be given an extended look, but it won't happen - Nucker101
Green is playing the tough love role with Jake, it worked for Al Arbour so it must still be relevant, in his mind. |

With so many more LS wingers available to Canucks that could play with Bo you'd think keeping JV on the right wing would be better. Then he could do well enough there to be ready to help EP step into the league. |

Does this mean you think Virtsy is a first line winger? |

So playing with the twins, or Gags or Gonner is probably more appropriate then no? |

Comets 2-1 Megna Boucher
Comets D get a lot of points maybe we should switch |

The Canucks don't have enough talent to make up a top line of legit 1st liners so your logic is flawed |

Outside of the last game, where it appears he had some nice minutes, he's been made irrelevant for the most part with his eight minutes a night, is what I'm getting at.
Who he plays with isn't really of concern to me. |

I know you're always fixated on goals, ignoring that assists are points as well, but I'd actually like to see him really improve his assist totals and become a better play-maker.
20-25 goals should be easily attainable but I'd like to see a 40 assist season out of him. For a center I think it's important to evolve that part of his game, which is lacking IMO. |

He would need to have wingers, or d-men who could finish... sort of a catch 22 wi5 the Canucks eh? |

Two things 1) he does have wingers that can finish, one moreso than the other, and 2) if he needs to be surrounded by 50 goal scorers (which would be nice) to get assists then he's not as good as we all think he is.
Horvat needs to make the others around him better, as a center, not the other way around. |

I don't think he's that type of a player, the guy is a powerforward. Nothing wrong with having that at Center. Embrace him for what he is. |

It definitely take the long game to draft all positions and put together a balanced core. The list of teams that have one outstanding strength and prematurely run with it often face the sobering reality of a early reset with franchise players already hitting the middle of their careers and getting massive contracts.
Nothing is a sure bet though. If your drafting sucks you end up with a generation gap anyways. - boonerbuck
I agree, it really does take the long game to build from within unless you're both lucky and a genius on the draft floor, but, you don't have to be really good at all facets of the game to win a Championship. In my opinion anyways.
Lots of examples of scoring deficient teams who win with good defense, when LA won in 2012 they were second last in GF (194) but they were second best in GA (179). 2014 was very much the same sixth last in GF but number one in GA.
Conversely, some of high scoring teams who aren't great defensively win too, last year Pittshburgh was in the bottom half of the league in GA, seventeenth, but they were the best by a wide margin in GF with 282. Outscored their defensive deficiencies. |
