Dorsett was an excellent 4th line player but his contract not so great. I'm assuming most fans are happy with the extra cap space? - Coilers
I never minded his contract and I dont expect that the Canucks will use that cap space to enhance their rebuild. I'd actually prefer to have him on the ice and in the room |

If dorsett potted 15 goals this year at 2.65 mill, it isnt that bad. He wasnt doing that bad at all this year as far as goals. 2.65 as a 4th liner is obviously a pretty hefty contract, but we are almost completely void of grit now. |

Agree. I dont think we are going to fill that cap space with a grinder or anything. If its 2.65 and having dorsett or freeing up 2.65 and not having him in the lineup, i take dorsett in the line up, for the remaining of this year anyway |

I’m not sure which group I fit into?
I want the team to collect as many extra picks as they can to give them the most chance at landing high end NHL through the draft. Am I a draftist, or a tanker? - Now, I truly believe that they have guys in the system already who could provide as much as a Gags, or a Burmy or even a Stetcy/Hutty. There might be a bit of a drop off, but I believe the potential outweighs the risk.
I would rather see Guddy traded before the deadline than lost to FA. Does that make me an #assetmanagementist? I just think he isn’t a great d-man, and would rather move forward without him but would love it if some other team valued his hard to play againstness.
As Whitey noted, we all make critical judgements about players based on their willingness to accept a trade, sign a home town contract, get in a fight, and I have gotten in heated debates with name calling on here because of it. Does that make me a feelingsist? I also think that NHL GMs consider feelings too often when deciding on roster decisions, and that playing an entire career for one team is unhealthy, it’s kind of like marrying the boy/girl who took your virginity.
Sometimes I write incredibly long winded, diatribe like posts, just like this, does that make me a novelist? Because that would be great, I could use the pay cheque! - 1970vintage

I think Jim Bennngs greatest failure a second a GM has been that he has spent to the cap every season for teams that have been pretty terrible. He could have achieved the same results and saved the owner 20 million dollars at least. |

I think most fans are just hoping he can transition into life after hockey smoothly. At this point they don't care about cap space. |

Ideally they utilize the space to take on a bad contract with an asset, but I cannot see them ever doing that |

Maybe the owner was mandating he spend that money to try and put a good product on the ice? Which would make his greatest failure that he's not a good judge of talent? |

Ryan Johansen was just told about dorsett from the media. Visibly taken back by it. Said dorsett took him under his wing for his first year, showed him what it took day in and day out to be a pro. Could not say enough good things about dorsett.

Yeah, I remember someone saying (probably Gillis) that they vowed to spend the money to be competitive, so perhaps you are correct, he should have been able to see what the layfan could see, steadily declining results because of a loss of talent AND an ageing roster. We’ve been saying for 3 years that the rebuild won’t start until the twins retire, almost there... |

I wish we had a canuck trade to talk about or at least a viable rumour.

Yes and no at the same time. The canucks have done well in building up their prospect pool (well at least from what it was). Yes, the twins are still here but their TOI has drop significantly. I don't think we can expect more than that. |

Im curious as to what benning (or replacement) does in the off-season with all the freed up cap space. I dont know exact numbers, but it has to be north of 17 million, plus cap is going up |

No kidding. I've noticed this group repeating topics and subject matter. The most significant discussion point over the last year has been people's behaviour on here.
As entertaining as it's been it just doesn't fill that void. |

Knowing the canucks it will be veteran leadership to replace the loss of the twins |
