I agree – sort of annoying when people try to brush it over with "he made a lot of money, it can't be that hard lol." I'm sure for a guy like DD he would gladly give millions away to not have the injury and be able to play again.

Yes, he's set for life (if he's handled his money well), but an intense acute injury that decides your future for you isn't easy to manage mentally, no matter how much money you have. Hope he's going to be alright moving forward.

It literally happens every year. Players know it's the risk you take playing at the highest level. It will hurt, but ten seasons is more than most bottom 6 guys play.

Sorry to hear that Dors can not continue his hockey career, always liked his game, especially his give-a-poop meter, which was permanently cranked to 11.

He compared his injury to cancer and then asked when the candle light vigil was happening. The dude was insanely insensitive man. Then talked about losing a trade chip immediately after he went for a dr appointment

I agree, just saying that most fans are pretty insensitive about player's lives. I also dont think many of us expected, with the way he was playing, that he had played his last game. We talked Hansen's trade value when he went down with a knee injury last year; its sports and players are cattle/assets to most fans. Insensitive responses to the impacts off the playing surface shouldnt be a surprise to anyone was my point

As much as you hope he can recover and make a come back, a little part of me wants him to not come back to the game. Hes got a family, you wouldnt want to see him in a awful place cause of pain or permanent damage. Guy is a class act. Hope he can recover and live a healthy and pain free life after this.

I totally get that. Maybe when you compare anything to cancer, it strikes a nerve for people who are impacted by it. I just know, as someone who despises gudbranson, if the situation were revolving him, i wouldnt see it as an opportunity to talk about my dreams being crushed to trade or get rid of the guy, it immediately changes to the health and well being of the person, as opposed to asset management of a player. I wont make any more remarks about n4u moving forward though. Thanks for understanding whitey

There’s no comeback if we take the statements as “truth”. Dorse said “black and white” - just don’t play.

I agree. The writing is on the wall. I dont think anyone expected him to be playing this year though either. The guy definitively deserves masterton nomination for what he has done this year. Doesnt take no for an answer

Couldn’t agree more, and usually I disagree just to “get the conversation going” - aka stir the poop.

Totally, I think it went a little further than it should have and he probably/hopefully does feel bad about those comparisons.

FYI this wasnt about him, I have tried bringing up the human side of things in several discussions, particularly on the 4-year college loophole topic. To me, there are major inconsistencies as to when fans care about the person and can separate the money they make from the challenges of the profession

This is devastating news for Derek, I can only hope that he doesn't have any debilitating physical functions later in his life.

Canucks as a team will be left with a big hole in the pest department.

I’m not sure which group I fit into?

I want the team to collect as many extra picks as they can to give them the most chance at landing high end NHL through the draft. Am I a draftist, or a tanker? - Now, I truly believe that they have guys in the system already who could provide as much as a Gags, or a Burmy or even a Stetcy/Hutty. There might be a bit of a drop off, but I believe the potential outweighs the risk.

I would rather see Guddy traded before the deadline than lost to FA. Does that make me an #assetmanagementist? I just think he isn’t a great d-man, and would rather move forward without him but would love it if some other team valued his hard to play againstness.

As Whitey noted, we all make critical judgements about players based on their willingness to accept a trade, sign a home town contract, get in a fight, and I have gotten in heated debates with name calling on here because of it. Does that make me a feelingsist? I also think that NHL GMs consider feelings too often when deciding on roster decisions, and that playing an entire career for one team is unhealthy, it’s kind of like marrying the boy/girl who took your virginity.

Sometimes I write incredibly long winded, diatribe like posts, just like this, does that make me a novelist? Because that would be great, I could use the pay cheque!

I’d say u r a draftist & have a realistic point of view. Tankers r clueless & live in a fantasy world. Everyone likes or dislikes players thats fine.

Dorsett was an excellent 4th line player but his contract not so great. I'm assuming most fans are happy with the extra cap space?
