Someone want to explain or make an excuse for why Buchnevich only saw 2 more minutes than Paul Carey and actually less time 5 on 5? AV relies on the wrong players, in the end he's gonna get fired , Gorton is putting his neck out by not having done it prior to this season
- KreiderBomb

Your last words on Gorton are the key here. Stepan was dealt in order to afford to sign Shatty, in FEELING that Andersson was ready to replace him SUFFICIENTLY at center as one of their two 1st Round picks, IF still available. But Gorton had other cap space creating options for wanting to contend still under Hank, but also be in a partial rebuild.
Gorton could have also bought out Staal for one option, which would have however, then tied up more dead cap space for even longer. In addition, he failed to be creative via trade(s) means to increase his cap space room, in acquiring prospect(s) &/or draft picks for his partial rebuild, without dealing Stepan, despite his NTC being effective soon. His slower speed was no excuse for him to be dealt, to rely on per his overseas scouting staff, a drafted kid out of Sweden to assume his roles equally, with Hank's chances diminishing with age.
Maybe Gorton could have convinced Stepan into voiding some, if not all 4 years of his NTC ready to kick in on his contract. Stepan was aware after all that he was highly rumored to be dealt prior to it beginning in the first place. In addition, Gorton had to be aware all along of likely losing either Lindberg or Raanta in the Expansion Draft, prior to Raanta being demanded by Arizona as well in the Stepan trade, to assume Stepan's full cap hit.
Last summer, a center in Edmonton named Ryan Nugent Hopkins was being tossed around in trade talks with some teams, including in a near deal of some form with Montreal for Galcheynuk. Maybe a swap then of Stepan "+", (for his DEFENSIVE skills and leadership), to acquire RNH at his slightly lower cap hit, would have been a start for Gorton to increase his cap space, while getting a known proven NHL center, instead of now likely needing, a (if fully healthy) McDonagh "+", or Skjei to acquire him, which is a big "NO" for the Rangers with their own defensive woes. For one fact, had that been the return for Stepan, one of either Lindberg or Raanta would have also still been here, with either Miller remaining only at wing, or the reliable Raanta giving Hank the proper rest he needs at 35 for now.

I can't wait for my 60's. You can pretty much get away with anything and people will just blame it on being old

Hey you guys are pissing me off here . I'm in my early 60's have 4 grandkids and do not dress funny or wear socks with sandals . Spend hours still at the rink and ballparks and lacrosse boxes . Retirement can be boring at times but the little ones can fill in a day/ weekend fine

Not sure Stepan Trade was to get Shatty. Priority was to rebuild defense and get younger. People don’t seem to realize that DeAngelo was a guy they wanted. He is an offensively gifted kid who eventually will be a regular. I really don’t think Gorton thought he’d get Shatty on deal he did. If so, there was no reason to sign Smith. That is, as I said when it happened, the contract that Gorton will regret.

Jan, totally disagree with your take on Kampfer. He has been a steady workhorse. Tired of both Holden and Smith and their lackadaisical play in own end. Holden is cheaper and last year of contract. Need to trade Smith

After the way Smith played when he was brought over, no question about extending him. The problem is that instead of proving he deserved the contract, he came to camp out of shape and deserved to watch from the pressbox.
How bad was the D early on? Now that he has been inserted into the lineup, he has yet to find chemistry. I think he will regain form if allowed to stay in.

Kampfer has played well, no disagreement. But if removing one, I likely take him not Holden. However, as we have seen, a poor game could get a player benched, which if that is the case now, it should be Holden and not Kampfer benched.

My friend, I fully intend to wear black dress socks with sandals and play poker pool side with a bunch of older dudes in Florida. Indeed, I am quite looking forward to it. That and fishing everyday and going to Denny's at 4:00 p.m. for dinner.

Ducks had D to move, needed center with Getzlaf and Kesler out. Helps NJ in future, Anaheim now.
