Yeah, most likely
I think his confidence suffers when he plays banged up bc he can’t playbthe style he wants to
Problem is,
He can’t stay 100% healthy for long
Bogo has looked really good at times
Just doesn’t last bc he gets hurt

- jdfitz77

Even if he plays like Bobby Orr, you can not depend on him. He is useless.

He makes too much
He is injured constantly
He is completely inconsistent

And
What makes anyone think Housley is going to make him better. Our defense is a train wreck.

ZERO GOALS.

Is that a good rule though? We will probably be top5 this year unless drastic changes happen between now and then...we'll say that the "ratings" stay the same and 3/5 of those players are defenders...given the state of the team I'd say we don't go BPA, but go BDA, thoughts?
- RhinoFan

If there's an obvious talent gap i.e the forward available looks to be a first liner and the d available looks to be top 4/2nd pair, you go bpa.

But as you pointed out 3 of the projected top 5 are D. It's likely that bpa will be a defencemen.

Last year it would've been Mittelstadt/Tippett or Valimaki/Liljegren. Seemingly bigger gap

In this top5, I'm not worried. The Bottering Ram doesn't seem quite so foolish as to do that. I would like an Edmonton-like pick though (#1 overall).

Dahlin looks good in blue/gold.

- RhinoFan

Are we allowed to finally get a little lucky?
Dahlin would help us A LOT

I don’t really think anyone disputes that
It’s more ppl being hopeful that Bogosian can stay healthy & be useful
Yes, we also realize that’s unlikely

Ok, makes sense. The Nylander draft just came to mind. Nylander may have been projected a bit higher than Sergachev, but that would be the example, to me, where BPA kicks you in the ass. Last year, going after a defender would have been a big big reach, you're right, but if the gap isn't too large, still think a defender is a good bet for us moving forward.

Gamblers fallacy.
Just because red hit 10 times in a row, doesn't make black any more likely.

Hopefully we land Dahlan or another top defenseman who is nhl ready?
I see quite a few defenseman in mock drafts going early, does anyone know if they are nhl ready? Most Defenseman take some time to Master their craft. IE: Guhle

I agree in the 1st round for the most part
At least in the top5

But the 2nd round should almost always be a defenseman

Example why:

Girard was just the main piece traded for Duchene
Anyone think the AVs would’ve accepted a package built around Asplund?
And I think Girard was picked like 12-15 spots AFTER Asplund if I remember right

Defensemen prospects just have so much value...
it’s stupid not to draft them

Because Housley is the defense magician.

Bogosian is about to come in here and tear it up (His groin, again)

The Nylander one is tough, mostly cause in comparison to his brother his trajectory has been much slower.

Still, looking back on it Im not sure I would have gone the other way. Im picturing Sergachev being brought up here way too soon and asked to do way too much.

I dont have a particular preference by round but imo should look something like

1st round: bpa

Other 6 picks (assuming you have the standard 7)

2 euros
1 CHL
1NCAA
1 overager(usually chl)
1 goaltender

Some picks wind up falling in situations where a guy you've targeted/scouted heavily is available but he's not your position of need so im not really picky here. in general youd want to avoid any sort of extreme though.

Id say the top 5 (outside of dahlin) are one and dones (college or junior) which by d-men standards is pretty quick

They were in the same grouping talent-wise
I’m ok with Nylander
I think he’ll be pretty good
But we should’ve taken a defenseman IMO
Sergachev or Chychrun were on the same level for sure

The other nylander (the good one) has only 1 goal in the last 17 games.

A couple people on the board definitely predicted the marner and nylander slump

I always go at it with gerbe over marner. I wouldn't say he's slumping though, he doest really drive the play even last year. Nylander's a bit of surprise. My point was more about how quickly it took him to get to the NHL

He's not in the press box when I go ..

He must weasel his way into places

I don't know if he goes every game, but he definitely has a media pass. Do you know what he even looks like? That photo on the main page looks nothing like him. He is a very hirsute individual. He posted some picture of him after some hockey tournament. He is one weird looking mofo.

So how does our defense get better then? We need to draft a d high.
Guhle is a prospect, so is borgen. The current roster isn't going to magically improve.
