He’s also not wrong. Leon just flat out doesn’t put in the work sometimes. He wants to coast on his skill.
He’s a great player and I’m super stoked to have him. But I have this inkling he’s a total douchebag. And he certainly isn’t worth 8.5 mil. He’s not better than lots of guys that make significantly less.
Chia needed to play hardball with him and give him a bridge if he wasn’t gonna accept a number that also helps the oilers.
Now we’re stuck. Anything less than 70-75 per on a yearly basis is awful

Alright so let's break this down:

Carolina gives up Rask, Lindholm and Faulk
Edmonton gives up RNH, Puljujarvi, Strome, Russell, 2018 1st and Benson
Detroit gives up Nyquist, Tatar, Helm and Kronwall

Is Rasputen supposed to be Michael Rasmussen?

Without even looking at the respective deals themselves, it's quite apparent how unbalanced that is. Detroit loses two top-6 roster wingers and two cap dumps; Edmonton gives up a top-6 C, a 3C, two good-to-great winger prospects a first and one cap dump; Carolina loses two key roster players and one guy having a tough start. See the huge imbalance?

So, what need does each team fill in your scenario?

Edmonton gets an upgrade on D (Faulk), a crazy upgrade at forward (Lindholm, Nyquist and Rask), an upgrade to team speed (Helm) and COMPLETELY cap (frank)ed (adding probably +20mil by this time next year while only dropping 12.5mil).

Carolina gets MORE talented wingers (Tatar and Puljujarvi), a 3C, less cap flexibility (Kronwall), a good C prospect (assuming you meant Rasmussen) and doesn't fix their major area of need (offensively skilled 1C).

Detroit gets free of a huge cap burden (Nyquist, Tatar, Kronwall and Helm), a 1bC (Nuge), a cap dump (Russell), a good winger prospect and a 1st and cripples their team from competing at all this year (likely not great for the optics in their new arena).

Now that I've laid it out, is my reaction making sense?

Lewl, I didn't even consider the cap situation after this year. But yeah, now that I look back at that, your response is totally fair. Just a (frank) fest of a post with no thinking involved at all. Hopefully BINGO doesn't peak in this forum.

HOWEVER, I do think that if any 3-way deal can happen, it would be between those three teams.

For me, I can either write the first thing that comes to mind and use up just a few moments of my time or spend a solid 1-3 hours thinking and critiquing an idea until it is perfected.
You can probably tell which is which whenever I post.

yep- MacT pissed away the entry level opportunities and Chia didnt play hardball or consider other options... then there is the timing- just announced 12 million per deal to McDavid- and your second best player on the team is due to get paid as well... talk about being Oilered...

I don't really switch 100% of the time, maybe 40%. We just agree on a lot of stuff and sometimes, he brings in new perspectives that I never thought of before, thus making me rethink my approach.

I do stand by the fact that those 3 teams could definitely do a three-way deal. However, what I wrote wasn't really thought out AT ALL and honestly, I'm probably gonna relook at the whole thing again and try to give a real response to prove my initial point. Like I said, I can either post whatever comes to my mind and not look back or I can give an idea a good sit down and think it through.

I didn't even consider the cap problems after Y1, risk assessment variables, development probabilities, draft possibilities, etc, etc for that whole post. The whole approach was supremely shortsighted. That post was done with literally two minutes of my time during a boring MicroBio lecture.
