The only thing that matters is points earned. Yes, wins matter in a tie-breaker, but that's something to think about in April, not November. - Atomic Wedgie
Carey Price is coming back saturday!

I'm not sure how a team thinking about this 5-6 months in advance of the season is helpful. You're so dense sometimes, Wedgzie. |

I gotta say, I'm finding this "Chiarelli is the worst GM of all time" talk pretty hilarious.
FFS, he brought a Stanley Cup to Boston.
As far as I'm concerned, everything after that is gravy.
He may not be having success in Edmonton, but it's pretty franking laughable that the Tanners of the world feel free to call him a moron.
He's a franking Harvard graduate + a law degree.
Funny piece of trivia: his best friend is Mark Carney.
Yeah, I'll bet he's a total franking idiot. |

For all the poop Niemi has received this season.
He was excellent vs the Preds.
Good for him.
Still can't believe he played a game.
And I can't belive Julien said "We're sending Lindgren down because we can't afford to lose Niemi".
HOOOOOOOLY CRAP. |

Considering Mike Millbury has been a GM should disqualify anyone else from being called "the worst GM of all time".
I also agree that winning a cup speak for itself for Chiarelli.
You can still make the argument that, right now, he's the GM doing the worst job, but that's a completely point.

The Seguin/Eriksson swap seemed to be his crossing over. Just so many odd trades after that.

I just dont think he is a very good GM, winning cups doesnt mean as much to me. there is a bunch of poop that has to happen and often its the work of others that some GMs get a lot of credit for. Off the top of my head I dont know if PC brought in Chara, Bergeron and Thomas (I think just Chara) ...but other major players on the cup win were already in place.
Same thing applies to the Brian Murray/Burke cup in Anaheim.
Also..how the (frank) did Vancouver lose that series
anyways his moves as a whole are bad imo
whats to say he shouldnt have a few cups if he just left stuff alone.

For what it's worth.
Signing Chara and trading Kessel were both very, very good moves.
It's the "after cup" that didn't go so well. |

He's made some horrible moves over the years. Mcdavid fell to his lap.
I think the criticism is well deserved. I wouldn't be happy if I were an Oiler fan right now of what he's done.
At the end of the day there really are only a handful of really good GM's. We have one in Lou. Is there someone better than PC that dosnt have a job right now? Honestly probably not.

Huh? Not at all
Teams should totally worry about wins at this point of the season. If you only have 8 wins at this point of the season, you aren't playing good. Plain and simple.
Sure, it helps them in the standings right now but they are quite lucky to be where they are right now |

I think it says a lot when you could pertty much do nothing and have helped your team more than the moves you made.
also for what its worth, a lot of fans were already saying he was not a great GM before he left Boston
and so far he has lived up to the hype |

would you trade Mcdavid for Mathews? - senstroll
Nope, Matthews is clearly a better all around player.
The only thing McDavid edges Matthews on is obviously speed. Maybe a tad more on hockey IQ but that's reaching. |
|
|
|
there's quite a few bad GMs (past and present)
one of the best GMs though is Poile - wouldn't mind if Leafs tried and sign that guy after Lou retires (in 15years or so) |

Yep. He's made a lot of horrible moves over the years. Every GM makes bad moves but when you make more bad ones than good ones you aren't doing your job right.
He will be fired if they miss the playoffs which isn't a bad thing for them... |
