Not to harp on Willie as he's struggling a bit, but how do you beat the guy to the puck in the corner by 5 feet and come out of the corner never having touched the puck?

I think he's been taking lessons from Jake.

- Garnie

he made a good defensive play also

he is getting shots (3rd on team) and shooting 6.5% so far
he will come out of it an pile up points, then we can go back to trading Marner again

i think thats how it works

The thought of trading Marner terrifies me, because I don't think we know just how good this kid might become.

I'm not so terrified of trading Willie. I don't know - he just seems to be lacking a little something. I think he will become a good player, and I don't think we should give him away for nothing...

...but if we got back a good defender in return, I'd kiss my Nylander poster one last time be OK with it.

I don't want to trade him, but he sucked for the most part last night.

I'm in agreement. He could easily become the next Kovalev. Super talented but takes too many games off.

I too wish every player was awesome every night and the Leafs won every game without making any mistakes

How's his stats look without Matthews?...1st thing I see is his CF% drops 5%.

He'll get better but not playing well and being afraid to go into the corners makes it tough to watch.

I would even doubt the higher ceiling. Reilly is a very solid 2-3 d-man in my opinion. His points this year are not far off Pietrangelo - who is in the Norris conversation. A better compable for McAvoy at this stage is Gardiner who I would probably trade for McAvoy.
- winsix

Right now, with the way he's playing, Rielly is a #1.

I don't think Pietrangelo is just in the conversation, he's the odds on favourite. The only other guy playing even remotely close to as good as him is Doughty.

Yahoo fantasy pool question...

Forward and D-men point production is like comparing apples and oranges. In terms of point production only, how much is a 50 point d-man worth in terms of a forward's point production?

They're certainly not equal. So is there a formula or rule of thumb that's typically applied in order to compare the associated values/point production of the two positions?

For example...

Is a 40 point D worth approximately 40 x 1.5, a 60 point forward?
Is a 50 point D worth approximately 50 x 1.5, a 75 point forward?
Is a 60 point D worth approximately 60 x 1.5, a 90 point forward?
etc.

That's probably a good gauge. However is it a keeper pool? Age would play a factor too.

Agreed as well.

The Leafs need a legit top 2 defender and if Willie is the key to that deal I think you need to make it. His value is likely never higher...

I think if they did that it's possible to sign JVR for 4 to 5 years at a reasonable cap hit and keep their winger depth.

Easier to replace a winger than get a top Dman.
a sign and trade or trade and sign could bring up Nylanders value.

But Im still hesitant to include the either of the 3 kids in any trade at this point.

I am hesitant too but I look at Nashville and Columbus. While the Blue Jackets haven't had quite the success Nashville has, pulling the trigger on a deal like moving Jones for RyJo could be huge.

Ekblad, Doughty, and OEL.

But we have to throw in Gardiner and a 7th!
