I can't believe they put The bozek out on the shootout...what were they thinking??

Kadri had just received two crosschecks to the back, and at least one of those should have been called...should have controlled his temper, but that's pretty hard to do when some tool is hitting you like that.

- mgriffen

Actually Bozak if I recall correctly has one of the highest scoring rates on the shootout on the team. Has been that way for many years. Leafs in general do not practice the shootout nearly enough and it shows. It is the easiest point in hockey. With the talent on the Leafs, surely if the top forwards could start practicing some skill moves for the shootout, we wouldn't lose in the fifth round in a shootout to a dreadful offensive team like Florida.

he was their best dman last year but this year he kinda sucks

are we supposed to still think he's their best dman when he stops playing like it?

I may have heard it wrong on the TV last night, but I think they said we have only won two shootouts over the past two years.

You heard it right, 1 last year and so far 1 this year.
I guess that's only a year and a quarter though.

Actually, the stats aren't as bad as I thought.

Last year: 1-8 (yeah, obviously bad)
2015-16: 6-6
2014-15: 5-5
2013-14: 9-4

I thought the Leafs actually played really well. Florida didn't get a whole lot of chances and the leafs generated a bunch.

Reilly has picked up where he left off from the playoffs. Possibly paying better too

Because they practice the shootout, and Bozak performs well.

Pretty simple.

- Atomic Wedgie

They don't practice nearly enough. Matthews can hit a fruit fly in the top corner with his snap shot, he can deke around an entire team. With practice between Matthews, Marner and Nylander, surely they can come up with better moves and set plays than witnessed last night.

It's based on a lot of luck. It should be a 10 min 3 on 3 then tie. It takes the same amount of time as a shootout. And if two teams can't finish a game with 10 mins of 3v3 they are full of David Clarksons

Take a look at the video here:

https://www.thestar.com/s...-stick-hits-official.html

And that's after the first cross check on Kadri. Franking disgrace of a double non-call by the refs.

Leafs should have had a 5 on 3.

Don't get me wrong - I'm still furious at Kadri for taking a selfish penalty.

But the first cross check on him should have been called. The second one? Franking criminal it wasn't called.

- Atomic Wedgie

of course it was accidental. But it should still be looked into.

I think they've done ok this year, no?...are they not 3-1 or 2-1 in the shootout?

Absolutely this.

Although on this board, only Polak, Bozak, Martin, JVR, Andersen and McElhiney can be blamed.

Please divert your blame to one of these individuals.

That's correct, we lost alot of extra points last year, enough that we would have faced the Bruins instead of Washington had they done a better job on the shootout.

Imagine him with a better defender

I mean, Hainsey deserves a lot of credit for raising his level of play and he's a good number 4/5 guy. But imagine him with a number 2/3.

From the Star:

Kadri wasn’t immediately given any additional discipline for the incident, on top of the two minute cross-checking penalty he was initially sent to the box for.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the NHL would be investigating the incident. It wouldn’t be Kadri’s first time in the league’s disciplinary cross-hairs.

https://www.thestar.com/s...-stick-hits-official.html

Are you franking kidding me? Any idiot watching the video can see that it is 100% accidental.

- Atomic Wedgie

Kadri probably told him to sit down before he sits him down.

Buddy's giving it to him and Kadri says a couple quick words and it's over.

Ottawa, Boston, Habs all poop. I really don't get what people saw in these teams at the start of the season. Ottawa still has hope as I thought they would be the wild card team.

Not to harp on Willie as he's struggling a bit, but how do you beat the guy to the puck in the corner by 5 feet and come out of the corner never having touched the puck?

I think he's been taking lessons from Jake.

At this point. I wouldn't be all that shocked if they finished 3rd. Boston, Sens and Detroit all honestly have a decent shot at that spot
