if you took a couple of 2x4s to the ribs, one of which leave you not being able to move on the ice, I'm very much doubting that taking penalty is one of the first 10 or 20 thoughts running through your head.
armchair hockey player coulda woulda shoulda
That was entirely on the officials. Missing something once happens. Missing it a 2nd time, right in front of him, is shady.
...and if only those 2 were the only blown calls

I'm going to attend two NYI games in January when I'm in NYC - will check out whether JT could be of some value for Leafs to add
btw I like Leddy for the Leafs as well - MaximusAurelius
Ok, Lou is awaiting your final report.
Enjoy the games
Were the tickets cheap? |

3rd row seats for 110USD each (near blueline)
other game a bit higher up - 55USD.
so approx 330USD for 4 tickets.
I think that's 1 Leafs ticket
btw Leafs could fill a stadium with 40.000 attendees easily - not possible to see puck from last ring i assume, so that's why not having such a big stadium? |

If only we had McAvoy...his 20 games of NHL experience would make us DA BEST!!!!
- Fakepartofme
Seriously.
It may very well be that McAvoy has a higher ceiling than Rielly and at some point down the road may be even better. But that day is not here and we have a guy in Rielly who is well-liked by the team, possesses leadership qualities, and is entering his prime at the perfect time for a young team bristling with potential.
Anyone who would trade Rielly for McAvoy at this point can only be a massive Bruins fandork. |

Kadri is a little chippy, you play that way sometimes you end up taking a penalty and not drawing one.
That call was a joke though. It's not uncommon to see the retaliation get called, but after taking 2 cross checks in 20 seconds? If you're putting the whistles away you do it for both. Almost as bad as the non call on Matthews partial breakaway. I've seen that get called as a penalty shot some games. |

Because Brassard - Stone - Hoffman play really well together.
I was surprised to see that Brassard is that much better in Ott than he was in NY.
or maybe i hadn't seen enough of him on the Rangers. - MaximusAurelius
Stone-Brassard-Ryan was the line when they were winning earlier in the year and Stone/Brassard on PPG paces. |

I got the distinct feeling that it was a "make up" call of sorts for the McGinn penalty with 1:27 left in the 3rd. Frankly, I hate it when refs try to "balance" penalties between teams or gift penalties to make up for a non-call or wrong-call. |

A friend of mine got into a bad accident
Alive though and will be fine, so that is good.
Hit by a drunk driver. Last night is the biggest drinking night of the year in the states. That’s why McAvoy was so much better than Rielly and I had to yell it from the mountain tops. Oh and I am no douche
Thanks for putting up with me. Just got home and time to sleep for a few hours. - RickJames77
In order of importance:
1) (frank) drunk drivers with a fire poker
2) Glad your friend is going to be ok
3) McAvoy has the nickname McAsuck for a reason

This. You don't ever want to show a bias towards one team. If they're piling up penalties because they're legitimately playing dirty, let them die by the sword. This isn't the level or the days of the refs being local boys. |

It is what it is. The concerns with refs are not a new thing.
Kadri's tantrum resulting in hitting the penalty box official (albeit accidental) needs to be controlled more.
But the refs are balls in this league. |

He may turn out to be awesome. But yes, its 20 games into his career. We've all seen so many players have a great first 20, 40, 60 70 games and then fall off in the 2nd and 3rd year.
Which I hope is the case for McA. |

WTF are you talking about?
I fully understand and saw what happened, and what Kadri did was nothing short or idiotic and selfish. Kadri has a history of losing his cool and taking dumb ass penalties at bad times and yesterday was no exception. There's a time and a place for everything and taking a ridiculous penalty while we're on the PP with 1:30 to go to finish regulation time and possibly the first :30 into OT is DEFINITELY not the time.
Sorry dude, there's absolutely no defending Kadri in this as he may have cost us the game. The bottom line is that the team and winning always comes first and Kadri needs to do a better job recognizing that in certain situations.
Hopefully this opens Babs' eyes a little and Matthews is put out there the next time instead. |

I would even doubt the higher ceiling. Reilly is a very solid 2-3 d-man in my opinion. His points this year are not far off Pietrangelo - who is in the Norris conversation. A better compable for McAvoy at this stage is Gardiner who I would probably trade for McAvoy.

Absolutely this.
Although on this board, only Polak, Bozak, Martin, JVR, Andersen and McElhiney can be blamed.
Please divert your blame to one of these individuals.

I agree the Kadri penalty was merited and a selfish stupid penalty. I also think the non-call in OT when Matthews was on a virtual break-away and was tripped/kicked/slashed to the ice was unforgivable. I was a disgraceful non-call that did cost the Leafs a point IMO. Other than that the game was a dazzling display of excellent goaltending, Andersen and Luongo were both fabulous, especially Lou. The Leafs first 10 minutes or so were poor, Leafs are a superior team without question, except for some bad bounces (Florida goal 3 or 4 posts) and not drawing penalties the Leafs were pretty good last night. Florida has a couple of outstanding players, Barkov and Pukestad. Other than that they are a trap team, rely on hooking/slashing/holding/crosschecking - had the Leafs and Babcock forced the issue by moving their feet a bit more, perhaps they would have drawn more penalties.
