I wish we had three more Voraceks with their woeful defense.

Might win games.

Y'all can be thankful for Hagg and Filppula this Thanksgiving. I'll be thankful for Voracek and Ghost.

All Fraude Giroux's fault. Guy is a slug and can't do anything out there. Retain salary and send him to whoever will take him. I'm old and crotchety and I want a winning team RIGHT NOW

and then we can have Filpula center the top PP....

can you imagine how bad they would be to watch with out Giroux.

What the (frank)ing hell, why is he a whipping boy on a team of dreck?

- Mononoke

The core is rotten bro, it's all on them. Hextool doesn't care about winning. Guy traded Brayden (frank)ing Schenn for god sake. Maybe in 90 more years our prospects will develop

People saying Voracek is bad is laughable man take him off this team and I'm sure they lose way more games then the couple they may have lost because of a defensive lapse or two he's had. People say we have no offence yet complain about the only guy driving play out there and our top scorer go figure. Voraceks job is to score and he's clearly doing that I have no issues with him
- FreshFlyer

It’s not like he was a strong defensive player when the Flyers signed him to that $8 mil contract. Why would he change? Why would the Flyers expect him to do anything different?

Spoken from someone whose never played hockey. Covering the defenseman is an important position especially with how offensive defenseman are today.
- Tfaehner

I actually do play hockey. That being said defenceman typically dont jump into the play that often. Most Dman today arent Offense oriented. How many times do you see guys like Manning, Morin, Sanheim, Gudas, Provorov or Hagg even remotely close to the net? The correct answer is you don't. They typically sit at the blue line and dont move to far from it. Exceptions are AMac and Ghost who are guys who like to jump into the play, in which case someone on the forward side drops back meaning the Winger still sticks up top and switches his assignment. The winger sticks with the guy who covers for the Offensive Dman because the second that the two defenders cross, it where mistakes are made and someone is left wide open. The Wingers jobs are to cover those points and to be ready for the pass along the boards for a break out if the D manage to take the puck away.

One thing worth pointing out about the Flyers state of affairs. They have a much better team as far as talent goes than the expansion Vegas Knights, far better in talent. How come the Knights are a winning hockey team and the Flyers are not. It is Gerard Gallant behind the bench and not Dave Hakstol. They out shoot the Ducks in Anaheim tonite 50-19 with a not one Giroux, Voracek or Provorov. The reason is simply hard work and a coach that gets results. He did it in Florida too until he got fired for some disagreement with an owner but lets face it he knows how to win. They have a team of no names and mostly castoffs but are getting it done.

The Knights are a talented team. If you watch them play, you would see that. And every guy on that roster is playing with a chip on their shoulder, and doesn't have a bunch of writers who never played hockey sniping at them in the local media.

Um, frequently saw Hagg, Sanheim, Provorov and even Gudas down low when the Flyers were winning.

Dont tell MJL or Scoob that an NHL coach just admitted that they put lines together the way most of us do

This is a quote from John Tortorella:
“It’s a bunch of bulls—. I get a kick out of us, as coaches… we talk about this, that and the other thing,” he said. “‘This is what I’m looking for.’ It’s a bunch of bulls—. We try things, and if it works, it works.”

He is a defenceman key word defence obviously forwards have to backcheck and play their role in a team defence aspect but I am more concerned with the forwards scoring goals. Ghost has been bad defensively these last couple of games he was good at the beginning of the year. He is still a young player. There are peaks and valleys in every season hopefully he picks it up.
- FreshFlyer

Go back and watch some of those first eight games, when the Flyers were winning. Ghost was not good in his own end.

Tangentially, it's hilarious that Torts is 10x more progressive than Hakstol as a coach.

He's spent a lot of time talking about how he wants his best defensemen to be rovers and for his team to take chances because mistakes are okay. This team on the other hand forbids defensemen from leading rushes and actually instructs their best offensive guys to NOT rover, like Sanheim, who has all the tools and talent to be special as a rover type. Have to be reliable.

A Vikings loss would have been great too. But watching the Cowgirls lose never gets old.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Hack is a bit more quiet which is a fine coaching style but many times this year (and last) were points I would kill for a time out and regroup, Understand not wanting to blow a timeout in case you need to dispute a goal but sometimes they need that time out and calming down Lavi probably had the best knack I can recall for a timeout and complete 180 turnaround for the team, Cant count how many of his timeout speeches turned into goals within minutes. Would just love to see the in game change that lets you know he has the rooms ears still.

Why are they tuning home out? What about hakstol don’t you like?
Are their systems screwed up?

The players on the ice need to be better. There is not enough talent. How many players on this squad are in that 24-27 yoa sweet spot? Not enough. Either over the hill or really green

- Just5

You may be right but then why do they trade a guy like Schenn?? If they really wanted to move Schenn they should have shopped him and they would have got a lot more than a salary dump Lehtara and a midget and another late pick. Bottom line is if St. Louis offered him up every team in the league would be bidding on him except maybe the Flyers because Hextall is brain dead or should I say stubborn to the point he is not making his team better. This edition of Flyers hockey is truly the worst that I can remember or want to remember, Dumb and Dumber just keep doing things that will take years to recover from and at my age I will not likely be around to see the good times ever again, sadly.

Well said and the best coaches are the ones that show emotion and can light a fire under their team with an explosion. I would like to see Torts coach this team and he would light a fire under some and send the rest packing. Hakstol seems to asleep at the wheel, lol
