Yes and no.

Sometimes a goalie steals a game. Sometimes a goalie plays lights out, like Neuvy did in the series against Washington ohhhh so long ago.

- ggunky

I think he showed a lot of rust last night. We need him to be better but at the same time it's no party playing very sporadically

The goals last night I blame the team defense more than I do Neuvy.
Every goal was pretty much an uncontested shot from the slot or a break away.

IMO goaltender is about 5th on the list of whats wrong:
1. Missing Wayne Simmonds
2. Lack of secondary scoring
3. No jam at all
4. Flyers doing their best Oatmeal imitation
5. Goaltending

1) Break out the Milk Cartons
2) Weally need to pick this up
3) Morin better kill someone at the blue line tonight
4) I hate oatmeal
5) HELP!

Overall outside of Neuvy's couple of poop games, goaltending has been the least of our worries this season.

Agree also money wise.Flyers got two average goalies with brilliant games in-between
for the same money what the Jets pay Maze for warming up the bench

What better goalies should Hextall have got for $2.75m or less on a short term deals?

Elliott is a .918 goalie over the past 4+ seasons. Neuvirth is .914.

Ryan Miller would have been my choice.

Sounds like a natural born Flyer.

At least a Flyer goalie.

Blind passes. Passes through traffic (which are not passes, then, are they?). The passes that are right to a Flyer, who fumbles them away. The attempts to bull through carrying the puck the result in turnovers. (And let's face it, other than G, Ivan, and Jake, who is a puckhandler? Not Gost right now.)

There were an embarrassing number of situations last night when there were odd man rushes against. And no one who could close on the few odd man rushes we had. What ever happened to shooting the puck and hoping for a rebound for the trailer rather than wildly passing to the trailer and missing the mark?

It was the worst game from a watching perspective they've played at home this year. Just awful.

i had a great view of the mess in section 121 but the positive is the ticket was free seriously tho the breakdowns were glaring.

I am very leery about giving Simmonds a deal more than 3 years. I give him some slack for his current level of play because the guy has been a consistent 28-32 goal scorer in his time here but as far as moving forward I just worry about being stuck with a bad contract after they have done a good job of getting out from under contracts like Vinny, Pronger, etc. Its really going to be a tough call.

People have been calling for the young guys the last few seasons so its silly to get upset at TK, Sanheim, Patrick, etc when they struggle. I really have little complaint about 28-14-93. I would move on from Filppula after this year or at the trade deadline and of course the obvious Read. Lehtera can sit.

I understand incorporating a lot of first and second year players into the lineup can mean steps back and that sucks for Giroux and Voracek but I really rather see it over the next year or two. Morin, Vecchione, Lindblom....all need to be on this team by next year if not sooner (Morin)

I would of resigned mason and than got elliot. Mason could of started all 41 home games and Elliot 41 road games.

I didnt realize signing a goalie is the only way to acquire a goalie.

Re-signed Mason at 4.1M? I think that was too rich for Hextall and he didn't like Mason's mental makeup over the last season or so.

Name one team in recent memory that had to rely on their backup goaltender to have playoff success.
- jmatchett383

Well, the Flyers used 2 in 2010.

Technically Pittsburgh did 2 years ago, Murray was the backup heading into the playoffs. But it's relatively rare. Brian Hayward came in for Roy in a couple of games in 86 and Wregget won a huge game 7 for the Flyers in 89. I'm sure there's been a few others but usually teams just roll with their #1

Yup. I do believe mason truly is a factor in why were better on the road this year and worse at home. It's like he had to know every inch of the hockey rink to be an effective goalie. But when he knew every spec of ice look out !

I thought the team hung Neuvirth out to dry last night. No way did I think he got pulled on his merits (or lack thereof) last night.

Not that I'm happy with their goaltending situation, but that wasn't the problem last night, IMO.

- johndewar

And I'm pissed at Hakstol saying he should have pulled him after the third goal, which appeared to suggest HE was blaming the goalie.

Again, who else was he supposed to sign? Winnipeg's $4.1m backup with the sparkling .892 SV%?
