I thought the team hung Neuvirth out to dry last night. No way did I think he got pulled on his merits (or lack thereof) last night.
Not that I'm happy with their goaltending situation, but that wasn't the problem last night, IMO. - johndewar
If I was Neuvy last night I probably skated off the ice went up the tunnel and said THANK (frank)ING GOD! That's a poop show in front of me tonight. |

Understood. I just mean the season as a whole. Elliott only ever had a great season playing behinf Hitch's system and Neuvy is a career backup.
This, again, makes me question Hextall's ability to scout and assess free agents.

That would require goaltending that stopped more then just the expected shot.
I don't get how goaltending isnt being called out more on this board.
Its like a good QB in football. A good goalie covers up ALOT of mistakes and also provides a team confidence. This team's goalie tandem provides no confidence to anyone in that locker room. - ggunky
The goals last night I blame the team defense more than I do Neuvy.
Every goal was pretty much an uncontested shot from the slot or a break away.
IMO goaltender is about 5th on the list of whats wrong:
1. Missing Wayne Simmonds
2. Lack of secondary scoring
3. No jam at all
4. Flyers doing their best Oatmeal imitation
5. Goaltending |

It's going to be the same tandem again next year. So buckle up. |

How would everyone react with Morin being called up. and then game time Amac is in the lineup and Morin in the press box?
Or Martel called up and Weise back in the lineup at game time and Martel in press box?
Either way none of these scenarios would be shocking would they? |

If we had a prospect who was ready or a trade to get a real 1 I don't think trading one of the 2 on an expiring contract next year would be hard. Back up goaltenders have been crucial of late in the playoffs |

Yes and no.
Sometimes a goalie steals a game. Sometimes a goalie plays lights out, like Neuvy did in the series against Washington ohhhh so long ago.

Overall outside of Neuvy's couple of poop games, goaltending has been the least of our worries this season. |

I think goaltending is second behind only secondary scoring.
Look at Jersey, a goalie makes them look like a playoff team.

Name one team in recent memory that had to rely on their backup goaltender to have playoff success. |

No GM would call up players just to shake things up or figure, "Why not?" Both of them are clearly NHL-ready and we should expect to see them in the NHL for the majority of the season. - jmatchett383
Haha. Good luck with that. I'm certain morin will be sent down when amac is back in. Martel we will see but he might get the cote suite |

I think Hextall and Hakstol are equally culpable. Hakstol often doesn't have any rhyme or reason to his lineup decisions, and outside of the draft, Hextall has done a pretty lousy job in supplementing the roster through FA and trades. - PLindbergh31
Well Hextall building through draft is in my view a good idea
but Hakstol is horrible in two departments . TOI management and line adaptation during games. In his first year I was impressed how he managed to keep so many games as one goal games and that neutral zone work was so much better then with Chief |

I think it was a little of both. They did hang Neuvirth out to dry on a number of the goals but he was also fighting the puck and I don't think Hakstol was happy with that after the one rebound goal. Ultimately though, the skaters were the issue last night.

This team really doesn't have any sort of identity.
Or, at least they aren't playing in the last 10 games like they have one. |

Unpossible. GMs only call players up from the AHL when they're deemed NHL ready.
These two should be up and in the lineup for the forseeable future.

What better goalies should Hextall have got for $2.75m or less on short term deals?
Elliott is a .918 goalie over the past 4+ seasons. Neuvirth is .914.
