in your opinion...when is the time for rocks?
- YuenglingJagr

Depends on the liquor. Quality scotch should never be served over ice, it dulls the flavor. However a good rye or bourbon is great with a few cubes of ice.

If they win these next 2 games with Morin in then Manning should be the scratch when McDonald returns in my eyes.
- FreshFlyer

Why is that? Manning will likely average 25+ minutes and Morin < 15 minutes.

There is no cap anchor dude. The Flyers are well under the cap and aren't signing anyone that would put them close to the cap. Taking on the salary was an asset that the Blues paid for
- YuenglingJagr

What about being the worst team in the NHL over the last month? Are you going to address that? Lehtera has a high cap hit for a guy that is an empty uniform. Collecting guys like Lehtera, Wiese, Raffl, Read isn't conducive to success.

I'm on the opposite end of this argument.

I've always been of the opinion that a little of bit of ice isn't so bad with scotch and the resultant water from the melting ice open up the scotch a bit.

Obviously, Hextall did the right thing and took action. Hopefully, Martel and Morin both play tonight. An NHL GM has to take some action, he's part of the team too and can't just sit back and wring his hands.
- fls13

We'll see if it was the right action. I'm not expecting much from them because that wouldn't be fair. Never know though, a guy with skill could pot one.

I think I have addressed it. I've been saying what I think they should do since before the season started.

I wouldn't be upset at all if none of those guys were playing

The @NHLFlyers are now almost 21 games into season and only 1 forward combination has scored more than 2 goals while on ice together at 5v5:

Giroux-Couturier-Voracek: 18
Leier-Laughton-Raffl: 2
Weise-Patrick-Konecny: 2
Weal-Patrick-Konecny: 2
Weal-Filppula-Simmonds: 2

Not specifically calling out you...but what is missed is that the team is being built to be competitive with prospects that should peak at relatively the same time. It doesn't matter if they made a trade or didnt sign a guy that would score 15 more goals in the '16 or '17 season because that isn't when the prospects are hitting their prime. So, could they have made some smarter signings that made them more fun to watch and a bit more competitive right now? Yes, absolutely. Would they legitimately compete for a cup had they done so? No, I really don't think so. Just some perspective is all it takes.

It sucks because you have to watch the team right now, but I don't think they are the team that Hextall has planned all along for them to be just yet. The most frustrating thing right now though, is when certain moves aren't made for the future and they lean towards the guise of winning right now. That is the bigger error.

- YuenglingJagr

I agree completely with what you state here until the end. Some moves are misconstrued as favoring winning now and leaning towards the guise of winning right now and future moves not being made. I don't see those errors being made. Hextall has always said that if he can improve the team now without giving up any of the future he would make that move.

At least Hextall did something to try and give these guys a spark. I mean they are only 4 point out of a playoff spot right now and that spot belongs to the Islanders which they play the next two games. 2 wins here and they can easily make up some ground. This team can still make the playoffs they just need to have a good showing against their division, a majority of those 4 point division games still need to be played. Hope this lights a fire under this team.
- FreshFlyer

True but the way they played of late is no match for the Islander
Islanders are pretty good at the moment they even beat Tampa in a very good match
If they manage twice OT I would be already happy

A coaches job is to win games and put what the best team on the ice is. The GM handles player movement and decides who is on the roster. Two very different responsibilities. There are also many reasons why a young player is scratched in favor of a vet. I know that's taboo on hockeybuzz and should never, ever happen even if it is in the best interest of the young player. That is automatically deemed a mistake.

Water yes, but the chill effect from the ice can dull the flavor. A splash of cool, not cold, water is perfect for opening up the flavor of good scotch

It was the right action because it was action. Hextall had to do something after last night, it was that bad and followed the sloppy home effort Saturday. I would have let things ride through the week if they were actually competitive last night but they weren't. Two new guys in the lineup, which I expect to see tonight, sends the essential motivational message that should get through to everybody. Jobs are at stake and some guys may have lost their's in this recent slump.
