If I was Hextall I would not let the current state of the team change my process and philosophy on developing younger players. I would not bring up a young player based on what do we have to lose, you never know, or it can't be worse and place them on a team that is dysfunctional right now. That would be a mistake. If I thought a young player was NHL ready or real close, and that they might be able to help then I would do so.
If this team doesn't come out tonight with a burr under their saddles then there is a real problem. - MJL
Obviously, Hextall did the right thing and took action. Hopefully, Martel and Morin both play tonight. An NHL GM has to take some action, he's part of the team too and can't just sit back and wring his hands. |

so they started off the season strong, after that injuries happened and the lineup started changing. I get the chemistry changed and all but what is happening out there ? I certainly didn't think this team was a cup contender, more like a bubble playoff team, this is no where near that even.
so is this a product of just a bad team, lack of chemistry, wrong players, wrong coach or all of the above? To me Hak hasn't been given the best players, but it seems to me the ones he has been given should & could be doing better. |

Question for the CBA nerds, Alt had to be waived to be sent down at the beginning of the season. Why not the last 2 times he was up and down? - nastyflyergirl
Because he was up for less than 30 days.

Exemptions
A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games. CBA Reference 13.2(b) |

Things are looking up. I feel like Martel is more likely to get a long look. Morin is here as long as MacDonald is out which is mixed in where people see him. He still hasn't practiced with the team. |

At that this point, it's all we got. But I'm excited to be seeing guys like Morin & Martel along with Provorov, Patrick, Hagg, Sanheim, TK, Ghost and Coots Friday. The rest not so much |

You have to not only build through the draft, you also have to supplement through free agency and trades. So far, Hextall has drafted well, the system is by many accounts in better shape then it has been in a long time. (Still think they lack a bonifide stud offensively). Anyway many of the transactions Hextall has made in free agency, and the trade market have been flat out awful. Signing Wiese to that contract was absolutely asinine. The goaltending carousel continues. One journeyman after another. The Umberger/Hartnell trade was a fiasco. The early returns on this Schenn trade look dismal. I think right now you are another bad ten days away from a coaching change. - PLindbergh31
Not specifically calling out you...but what is missed is that the team is being built to be competitive with prospects that should peak at relatively the same time. It doesn't matter if they made a trade or didnt sign a guy that would score 15 more goals in the '16 or '17 season because that isn't when the prospects are hitting their prime. So, could they have made some smarter signings that made them more fun to watch and a bit more competitive right now? Yes, absolutely. Would they legitimately compete for a cup had they done so? No, I really don't think so. Just some perspective is all it takes.
It sucks because you have to watch the team right now, but I don't think they are the team that Hextall has planned all along for them to be just yet. The most frustrating thing right now though, is when certain moves aren't made for the future and they lean towards the guise of winning right now. That is the bigger error. |

NBC sports proposed Weber to Toronto. Makes so much sense it hurts.
Oilers time to fire McClellan.

With everything our coach has done this year do you expect Morin to be in the lineup over who ? If he stays he or sanheim will likely be the healthy scratches |

If they win these next 2 games with Morin in then Manning should be the scratch when McDonald returns in my eyes. |

I agree that you have to do more than just build thru the draft and the signings have not worked out well with Weiss as you mentioned but I still believe you start first with building within. I still have no issue with the Hartnell trade outside of wanting a better draft pick back because I still believe that was about unloading Hartnell's contract. I liked Schenn. I didn't want to see him moved but do you really pass up on 2 firsts for him based on his play here? Either way I hold back opinions on that until I see Frost and what they do with this year's pick.
hey, if they keep this up they will be sellers and get another top pick which should make some happy - nastyflyergirl
The end of the first round with both picks, coupled with a two year cap anchor of Lehtera isn't a slam dunk. I know the Flyers have had good success in the late first round, but who knows what the players drafted will provide. More likely neither becomes an every day NHL player than one of them becoming a 50 point per year guy.
Like I said in an earlier post, they've been the worst team in the NHL over the last 4+ weeks. Rebuild or not, that is unacceptable. |

There is no cap anchor dude. The Flyers are well under the cap and aren't signing anyone that would put them close to the cap. Taking on the salary was an asset that the Blues paid for |
