Yes - it's an aggressive and unrealistic trade to take advantage of a hopeless GM on a floundering team. JVR gives them more top 6 talent, which they actually need. If he'd resign there for $5-$6M then they would probably do it. Gardiner gives them a rushing defenseman who can help start plays and has the potential to be good if he stops having brain-farts.

From a TML perspective, Jones is a prospect - that's it. Same with Puljujarvi - just potential here. The 1st rounder is just adding insult to injury, so feel free to take that out of the equation. Yes - we're not rebuilding, but JVR will not be resigning, Gardiner can be shipped and replaced by Dermott, and then we have some new prospects in the pool + we could use those assets for acquiring a top 4 D potentially.

Doubt very much the Leafs move JVR, the brass obviously thinks (perhaps foolheartedly) that they have a chance at the big prize this year. JVR is a proven 30 goal scorer with finishing touch on the PP. As a UFA, he will not get anything close to that coming back this year. Bozak and NHL caliber players either in limbo or on the Marlies are much more probable imo.

I agree they aren't bottom of the league bad but they haven't done a lot to improve their team while others in the division have.

Similar to the Leafs with Kessel and Phaneuf, fine players but combined the team didn't work so it had to be dismantled.

Nylander, Gardiner, Marner are all producing less than expected, just like your guys. The Habs problem is you don't have enough depth to recover when your big guys are not producing.
So our guys haven't got it together yet but we have goal production from Marleau, Brown etc.
The Habs are a bad team and should sell all the assets you have and start over.
