He hasn't got Tampa a cup. Blow it up! - mdw7413
The only thing that's prevented Tampa from challenging for a cup has been untimely injuries. That team is scary good and has no threat of cap trouble for at least two more years. |

If (big IF) the Rangers did decide to tear it down and rebuild, I would imagine that their goal should be to be competitive by the time Shestyorkin is expected to make the jump to NA. That's a reasonable timetable for adding high draft picks, letting some young players develop, and making some calculated, thought-out acquisitions. - eichiefs9
That's got gonna happen, no matter how much I want it to. The brass of this franchise would never try to rebuild in the current world we live in. From 1997-2004 it was easy to be bad because the internet wasn't at it's peak obsessive form as it is today. No shot a rebuild happens in this city. |

The way the Rangers have operated: Zero championships.
Rebuilds in Los Angeles, Chicago and Pittsburgh: combined 8 championships.
Even teams that have tanked and have won, Caps and Oilers. Both got generational talents out of it.
If you're gonna point out a rebuild to refute me, point to Buffalo.
I just did the work for you, any questions? - tomburton99
So the Isles have been better than us cause they got JT? |

They are right now. They finally got JT some talent to work with. Rome wasn't built in a day. Rebuild take time. The islanders need to get JT signed though, YUGE caveat |

The point being, that Tom was basing it on titles. If thats the case, 29 other teams should root to lose and blow it up every year. |

Just one. Are you trying to miss the point?
What have Washington or Edmonton won? Nothing. I'm not sure what that even meant.
What I'm saying is that winning the Stanley Cup means as much as it does, because it is extremely difficult to do. I don't want to cheer for a team who says, "we're going to intentionally suck until the time is right to strike." At which point, they still have no guarantee of success. Just because it looks like the easiest path. THERE IS NO EASY PATH TO THE STANLEY CUP.
I want to see my team take what they've got and do what they think will make for the best shot at the Cup EVERY year. I would rather watch a team with a little less natural talent bust their ass to try and improve as a team and do their best year after year after year. If they don't win, poopty for sure, but it's a honest straightforward effort. Guess what, every single year some really good team doesn't win the Stanley Cup. That's sports. |

Give me the Rangers of the last decade compared to the Isles of the last decade. It isn't even close. |

You can throw whatever percentages you want, but right now in the metro after a 1/4 of the season, If I am a fan of any team, I would be thinking they have a chance to make the playoffs. - mdw7413
I don't think the Capitals have much of a chance.
But yeah, basic mathematical equations where you figure out every possible combination of wins/losses for every team remaining and then add up the ones that occur together most frequently never work. |

What Washington got was one of the best natural scorers ever to grace the league. I'd take that as a compensation. |

The reality of the situation for the Rangers is they need to finish top 5 in the Metro to get a playoff birth. Which three teams do you think fall behind?
The Flyers maybe, Washington maybe? Still gotta finish ahead of one other team. |

The Rangers have one ECF championship that separates them from the Islanders. Which is meaningless. Nobody outside the fan-base will revere that team. No matter how fun it was to experience that run(The best I've seen) at that time. |
