If (big IF) the Rangers did decide to tear it down and rebuild, I would imagine that their goal should be to be competitive by the time Shestyorkin is expected to make the jump to NA. That's a reasonable timetable for adding high draft picks, letting some young players develop, and making some calculated, thought-out acquisitions.

That's got gonna happen, no matter how much I want it to. The brass of this franchise would never try to rebuild in the current world we live in. From 1997-2004 it was easy to be bad because the internet wasn't at it's peak obsessive form as it is today. No shot a rebuild happens in this city.

Even teams that have tanked and have won, Caps and Oilers. Both got generational talents out of it.

What I'm saying is that winning the Stanley Cup means as much as it does, because it is extremely difficult to do. I don't want to cheer for a team who says, "we're going to intentionally suck until the time is right to strike." At which point, they still have no guarantee of success. Just because it looks like the easiest path. THERE IS NO EASY PATH TO THE STANLEY CUP.
I want to see my team take what they've got and do what they think will make for the best shot at the Cup EVERY year. I would rather watch a team with a little less natural talent bust their ass to try and improve as a team and do their best year after year after year. If they don't win, poopty for sure, but it's a honest straightforward effort. Guess what, every single year some really good team doesn't win the Stanley Cup. That's sports.
