77.3% of teams occupying a playoff spot at American Thanksgiving remain in playoff spot. Rangers sit 11th in the east currently.

I'm going to start posting this after every one of your posts. Maybe you didn't learn this growing up, so I'm hoping it sinks in a little now.

You love to get on Jim for his name calling, but you do the exact same thing with your holier than thou responses. What, you think you're smarter than most of the people on this board? Do you have some divine understanding of the way the world works? Don't throw "math" at me like it's the key to success.

Also, you're clearly not good at math otherwise you'd be able to understand that ~23% of your statistic points to a contrarian outcome that you're hoping for.

That's... Less than 77%? Not sure what your point is...

Of the 16 teams currently in 2 playoff spot 3 or 4 won't be in come April. That's outlying 23%, thank you.

Sorry Tom, you know I like you and enjoy the banter, but if you are watching this season and basing it on math, you are no better than Tanner, and literally have no joy of the game anymore.

I'm not sure what his point is.

"A little over 3/4's of the time you aren't going to make the playoffs if you aren't in a playoff position by Thanksgiving."

"You mean we'll probably have a 22.7% chance??? I LIKE THOSE ODDS!"

The outlier is the 23%. The Rangers could part of that, the could not be. I don't think they. If I'm wrong, I'll be to tell you I was wrong. Thanks for fact checking.

No, but it's gotta impact your expectations, right? You can still cheer and whatnot, but your approach to things has to be tempered a bit by realism.

I feel like that some times. Like watching the games vs the Blackhawks and Jackets. I just felt like the outcome was predetermined. Do I like that I've turned into a slightly less smart Tanner, not really. But to me, that's the way I feel the Rangers are going. There 5 on 5 play isn't great, Lundqvist is aging, the coaching etc. The difference between me and people who'll remain nameless is that I'm not jump on you if you disagree with. I'll post back and forth, like we're doing now. In the end you could be right. I'll be man enough to say that you were.

Well I think what grates on people sometimes, is you are actively hoping they lose. I get you want to see changes, I think people on here agree with some of the changes you want, but you can still be happy when they are on a 6 game win streak, or they win a game against a good team. I would never tell you what to post or not post, but its probably annoying to some that even during the winning streak you weren't even positive. Just how I see it. Maybe try mixing up some positives with the negatives.

And even that 22.7% is going to be impacted by playing in the Metro where there are no Sabres, Canadians, Panthers, etc.

This is the most difficult division in hockey, and they have to displace one of the Pens, BJs, Canes, Isles or make up 5 points on the Devils.

With three point games that task becomes even more difficult.

Not true. You IMMEDIATELY give a reason why you're view is better than the optimists of the board. It's so polarizing it's unbearable, and likely the reason you've had this exact conversation with most members of the board.
