Bogo is better than half of the guys playing right now. I don't think that's a real hot take
- jcragcrumple

Yeah but he's a bottom pair D on a good team.

18 mil between gorges, moulson, lehner and bogosian.

is there a foursome out there with a worse cap hit to production/value ratio?

Andrew Shaw, Karl Alzner, Carey Price and Jeff Petry. Combined they'll make $24.5 million next season.

Only $20 million this year because Price's new contract hasn't kicked in yet, though.

Petry and Price are pretty good at their best. Andrew Shaw is decent.

The four guys i mentioned shouldn't be seeing regular ice time.

that doesn't equal 500 hockey though. Thats like when Kulikov replaced gorges. An upgrade for sure but...
- Sabresfan-365

The margin of victory due to parity is pretty slim.

Scandella-Risto
Mccabe-Bogo
Antipin-Beaulieu

Is a .500 team imo. That combined with a larsson-Erod-josefson 4th line and I bet were sitting at 9-9-4 record

Not sure if those changes would get us to 9-9-4, but I think you're right that we would be a lot better off if guys like Bogo, Risto and E-Rod didn't miss substantial time. May not be enough for a .500 record, but would be more competitive either way.

Honestly, I'm not even sure I went to their website at all over the past several months but agreed, I'm not even wiping my ass with the Buffalo News, I'll bare-hand it and wash them before I let that travesty of journalism taint my taint.

Ironically Gorges has been playing quite well in that 3rd role pairing. Thus, you could insert him for one of Antipin or Beaulieu. Results would probably be the same though

they got heavily outplayed in most of these losses. I dont know how swapping in bogo in the top 4 and a few fourth liners changes that. Risto probably makes the most impact here, at least offensively.

That fourth line would allow you to balance playing time so ROR doesn't get burned out, Erod creates PPs, and the defense is balanced. YMMV, but I think we'd be seeing games like the first of the year

Pretty tough to say either way. E-Rod was one of our better players last year (I thought) and Bogo >>>Tennyson et al. even though Bogo isn't a great defenseman.

Risto being out doesn't help either because guys who are even further down the depth chart are being pushed up...see Falk on top pairing. That would be Bogo, who might be more suited to "help" in that role.

I'm actually hoping Bogo comes back soon. He isn't the greatest defender, but the guys in the room like him and he has that "rah rah" mentality that may help us get away from slow starts.

Gimme Risto, Bogo and E-Rod back please...like, now.

It’s pretty sad when bogo will probably be the first defenseman to score this year.

No, I mean I'm literally not paying them. Sorry that was a bit vague. Bucky and Sully can go find a street corner as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry to disappoint.

Interestingly 7th round picks tend to be better than 6th round picks. 6th round picks have 2.05% chance of being a top 6F, top 4D, starting G, and an 8.85% chance to play 100 games and 7th round picks have a 3.2% chance of being a top6... and a 12% chance to play 100 games. I'm guessing you're more likely to take a bigger chance on a guy in the 7th than the 6th.

And the 2nd overall picks are better overall than 1st overalls, but that's mainly because of the misses at 1st overall Yakupov, DiPietro, Stefan, Daigle...

There's some variance between pick levels, because it was only a 23 year sample size(1990-2013), so a couple of guys taken in a 5 pick block will skew it one way or the other, and I'm sure once we get a few more years down the line and the past few years are added it will change then numbers a bit more.
