It's Buffalo versus the World.

And the World just struck out the side. Again.

- buffalofan19

Top of the 9th no less. The world didn’t even need to call on their closer cause it wasn’t a save opportunity. Some scrub long reliever.

I'll put the trade through tomorrow (gotta wait for the day to roll over since some guys played tonight).

What'd you think of last nights The Walking Dead?

Half of those and then some......

True ROR is a good player, but you're hoping when you draft those guys you're getting a 1 and 2 defensemen and at least one really good center.

Instead we're staring at a #2 possible #1 defenseman (jury is still out), a guy that can't stay on his skates, ONE second line center....

And it wasn't like JUST two of those picks got ROR, it was those two picks one solid prospect and another first rounder...

That's why we're bad IMO.

- gcomella34

ROR is a 1C on a lot of teams. It was a 2nd rounder, not a 1st. Picks 31-35(that was in the trade) are an 85% chance to be a 4th liner or worse at maximum. And only a 29% chance to play 100 games in the NHL. People way overvalue draft picks in the NHL.

At pick 12 you're getting an NHL regular with 350+ GP. Basically a 3rd liner. That's about the best you can hope for. Statistically speaking of course.

http://www.tsn.ca/statist...draft-pick-value-1.786131

NHL draft pick value is nothing like the NFL where a 3rd round pick is probably a day 1 starter.

THIS^^^
Thanks, I didn’t feel like lookingup the stats

I think what happens is that ppl see a guy like Pasternak get picked in the 20s who is killing it...
so they wonder why our “future captain” in Girgensons isn’t producing like a guy drafted in the teens?
Thing is, he actually is

Or they compare O’Reilly to Malkin, and not guys like Turris

Maybe it’s amplified bc we had so many draft picks for that 4year stretch who we thought were gonna help us...

I think what happens is that we always see the ceiling of a kid we draft, & in reality...
Most guys u pick are gonna end up producing closer to their floor

Especially in a league that makes it harder to score instead of easier
Man, the NHL drives me crazy
That’s kinda of a different subject though

Right?
How the F can we get this turned around so we can be headed in the direction of the Pitt & Chicago rebuilds instead of the Oilers & Islanders?

I don’t think it’s as doom & gloom as many on here do...
but yeah, this obviously sucks

Don't necessarily think its gloom and doom because I think we have some good players coming... but...I have serious reservations about ownership and management making the right calls going forward (for both Sports teams)

You need to draft well and make some ballsy trades.

I'm talking moving
Risto
Reinhart
ROR

This year is shot, might as well start selling assets. (Not that there is much to sell)

Sabres I like in their current spots/roles:

_____-Eichel-_____
_____-O’Reilly-_____
_____-_____-Pominville
_____-_____-_____

_____-_____
_____-_____
_____-Antipin

_____
_____

There’s guys I do like who we have...
they’re just playing a line higher than they should be
I’m actually also ok with Gorges on the 3rd pair, but he’s gone after this year, so I didn’t see the point of including him

I agree with all of this. Jack is 21. Even if the next 2 years after this are lottery picks, he's still only 23/24 and hitting his prime and we've got 4-5 years of him in his prime on his new contract.

We move those 3 for picks this year and next, we're going to have to re-up as soon as possible and nail those picks to even think about turning it around 180.

Will Phil even make it?

This is the wrong approach. We need to OBTAIN more assets. Last night proves most of our leaders are doing what they’re supposed to do.

It’s the secondary guys who aren’t contributing, and the guys we brought in to bridge us through the tank years that are now presenting obstacles to the rebuild.

Don’t sell assets, dump liabilities.

I hear ya
But I think that’s more just bc we’ve been losing for so long than it is anything the current GMs & coaches have done

There’s been stuff i disagree with so far,
but nothing really all that major

Benching Tyrod was probably the biggest mistake made by either team this year...
but it’s not like he was playing “good”

I get where you’re coming from...
but getting rid of all these guys is gonna give us a rebuild like the Oilers where they just had all kids who got beat down every night
I don’t think that type of rebuild gets us where we wanna be
I think it gets us where the Oilers are now
Except we won’t have “McDavid” in 5yrs

The whole blaming it on secondary scoring rhetoric is getting stale.

Even Jordan Nolan has been making great plays the past few games, he even spun Jack on a 2-on-1 last night.

What our problem is, is TEAM FINISH

Indecisive players, STILL. Terrible Passing, yet emphasis on a passing system, STILL. Defensive breakdowns, STILL. Inability to win puck battles along the walls, STILL. Afraid to cut to the slot, STILL. Afraid to check the puck carrier, STILL.

This team's identity is shot.

I lean more towards this direction as well
But the issue of this approach is that we need to make some moves that won’t be easy to all get done...

1) keep Kane, or sign a “JvR” to replace him

2) Trade for or sign at least 1 defenseman who can play on the top pair (which will NOT be easy to accomplish)

3) trade for or sign another “Scandella”

4) develop Guhle, Mittelstadt & Nylander in a manner that they can start producing for us by NEXT season

5) get a legit starting goalie that we can depend on
Sorry Lehner fans... but he’s not “the” guy... he’s closer to just “a” guy, who (admittedly) has some good games here & there

This is a list of tasks that will be pretty damn hard to accomplish

But dumping all the support our young talent has...
like ROR, Okposo (even those he’s not playing well), etc...
is just gonna keep this team looking like the Oilers did for the 5 years before they got McDavid

I don’t want that

Trading O’Reilly doesn’t mean we are gonna find our “Malkin” somehow

Thats the thing, I don't know. but something major needs to change because this core is currently carrying you to last place in the NHL.

This is the slowest team in the NHL. that needs to change
