Plekanec (as a rental at the TDL), Patches and Petry need to be moved. They are the pieces you can deal in order to do a "fast rebuild". Oh and they absolutely need Rasmus Dahlin, more than any other team in the league.

Don’t think anyone is giving high picks for Plekanec, Mitchell, Davidson or Alzner. I don’t see those guys being big pieces on any teams... they’re definitely not on their own team

Paul Guastad got a 1st at the trade deadline, anything is possible when a GM thinks he has this "Cup Winning Formula" figured out. Not saying that is what Plek will get, simply that sometimes GM's go TDL bananas. A more realistic scenario would be Plek for a 3rd and a good prospect that a team can "spare" (to paraphrase the blog).

Karl Alzner was already well in decline by last season, and while he was given top 4 D minutes on the Caps, he probably shouldn't have.

In general, when a team chooses not to re-sign a player they've had for years even though they badly need players at that position, it's probably not a good idea for another team to offer them over $1.5million MORE per year than they'd been making.
