It completely was.
Patches hit was cheap as well, but the leafs have too many wimps on the team to respond to it.

I don't know, Scabby - hard for me to find anything wrong with that hit.

He' coming out from behind the net - it's the player's responsibility to protect himself.

Kadri hits him shoulder to shoulder - never leaves his feet. Kadri positions his body properly so he doesn't drive him into the boards.

Sorry, buddy, but that's just a good, heavy forecheck. Nothing wrong with that.

Weber is turned that way because he's trying to protect the puck with his body. It's a good play, but no apologies if Kadri then tries to go through the body to get the puck.

I agree with alot of what you say here.

Weber did put himself in a vulnerable position.

The hit WAS shoulder to shoulder.

But I'll maintain that Weber had no chance to see him coming, it was a dangerous hit, from an angle impossible for Weber to see. (I call it blindside, some disagree, it doesn't matter).

And considering what happened prior, this isn't a typical "good hockey play" it was clearly intended as revenge.... he spotted a player in a vulnerable position and decided it was the best time to hurt him.

If Weber wasn't Weber, this could have been much worse for the player on the receiving end.

blind would mean he didn't see it coming, kadri skated directly at him, I don't see how that's blindsiding

he simply hit him and got a good piece of him, shoulder first...if it was a headshot and that was the penalty that's an ejection.

- Lucas.Neilson

ya he didnt see him coming. KAdri saw him...but Canadien player did not.
I dont mind the hit.
But he did not see Kadri.
Now weber also didnt really protect himself either.

I disagree with the premise of this dangerous hit business. Hockey is an inherently dangerous sport and any clean hit can be 'dangerous' if the player has his head down. The onus is on the hitee (yeah I made that up deal with it) not the hitter in situations regarding a clean hit.

I don't see how you can blame Kadri on this one.

on the full clip of the sedin hit, he carries the puck way longer and basically cuts into the middle of the ice.

those guys are free targets to be hit.

- Tumbleweed

I don't mind the blasting a guy cutting into heavy traffic.

It's the targeting of the head - which Kadri clearly did there. Too many guys have had bad concussions from this - see Savard, Marc.

Different school of thought I guess.... I for one rarely blame the guy receiving a hit when the decision of how a hit is thrown belongs to the hitter.

And I think it's farely easy to blame Kadri there, his intent WAS to hurt a player after being victim to a gutless cheap hit just before.

And my opinion has not changed, at the angle he was coming from, Weber couldn't have seen him coming and reacted.

Nothing, this doesn't deserve anything more than what was given on that play (the Refs got the call right and the Leafs had a powerplay in result).

Thank you all for the good, clean, discussion, it was very interesting and respectful.

I agree that it is a dangerous game - open ice hits like the one Kadri laid on Weber are usually far less dangerous than ones delevered close to the boards - like the one received. Didn't like the way Kadri was receiving punches from two players at the same time.

It's Weber's fault he couldn't see him coming, IMO. Pretty standard nowadays to peek up before coming around the net, and he didn't.

I will agree though that if Patchioretty doesn't hit Kadri the way he did, Kadri doesn't go into human missile mode.

http://ottawasun.com/spor...ts-quarter-mark-of-season

People are waiting for the other shoe to drop in Montreal because of the Canadiens’ inconsistent start and it could get ugly if they miss the playoffs. The name of winger Alex Galchenyuk continues to play prominently on the market. It’s believed several teams have contacted Habs’ GM Marc Bergevin. There can’t be a hotter seat in the NHL right now than Bergevin’s because coach Claude Julien isn’t going anywhere. The word is that Bergevin is the NHL’s most active GM and he’d like to do something to shake up his team …

It was a beautiful hit - highlight of the season so far for me. I'm especially satisfied that it was Weber.

Kadri's no angel, that's for sure... and that Sedin hit is nasty stuff.

He probably got penalized for his reputation here.

The Refs missing the call on the initial play are just as much to blame as the players involved.

If Pacioretty goes to the box, Kadri doesn't have time to start looking to hurt someone.

Idiocy all around.

I hope Bergevin gets fired so we get someone decent to rebuild this team.

DD won the contest of "what stupid move will come next" in the Habs thread with a Galchenyuk for Lucic trade.

That would be too much. Like I wouldn't even be able to laugh at the Habs because it would just be so sooo sooooo bad.

if they figure out a way to test for CTE in living people (on its way).. I bet they find out its not just hits to the head but 2 bodies colliding that can cause damage to the brain thats severe.

Bergevin may be the only GM to make Chiarelli look good. At least one of the few.

One of the worst all time. Scott Stevens is no better - but he's treated like royalty. The hit he made on Kariya was a disgrace.
